Unhappy need help please, problem with new sd40ve

hey guy, let me start by saying sorry if there are other threads about this already or if this is in the wrong spot , im new to the site. sorry... so anyways just picked up brand new sd40ve and am having big problems with the trigger. i know it has a real hard trigger and Ive read a ton of stuff about it but nothing really explaining whats happening to me. i have not fired this gun yet. so the trigger is hard, if i pull the trigger fast it will fire but if i try to pull it slow it wont, at all. i release the trigger and pull again and still nothing. if i pull it fast a few time it clicks, but never when i pull slow. it goes all the way back and stops but wont fire. sometimes if i pull it as hard as i can it will go, but i mean like AS HARD AS I CAN, HAND SHAKING ITS SO HARD!! is that normal? im 99% sure it broken. if pulled slow wont fire, very unreliable if its right. the tip of my finger is sore from pulling it. can that be right? i dont know. im 32 and have done roofing full time for 15 years so i dont think its me being a wimp. its way way hard if i pull the trigger slow or wont fire at all anyone with any advise? would be GREATLY appreciated. please let me know what you think: also bought the sd9ve today, seems perfect, real nice trigger, so i dont know.

I'd take it back to where I bought it and ask if they have another one and try it. Otherwise send it back to S&W. I have a SD9VE that is perfect and I would think the trigger assembly would be the same. Good luck.

This may be a dumb question but are you sure you are engaging the trigger safety? If when you're pulling slowly you are inadvertently pulling on only the top part of the trigger it will not fire. Be sure you're pulling back the hinged bottom half of the trigger which releases the safety and allows it to fire.

Yea I'm definitely pulling right. Pretty sure it's broken. If not it's really really unreliable. I think it's broke

Send it back, it sounds like a defect somewhere between the trigger rod and sear. It's not reliable and could cost you your life when/if needed.

I would call S&W CS and tell them about it. I'm pretty sure they gonna send you a shipping label and fix it for you.

Don't you think this just answered your question for you ?
If you have both you can see they are almost identical.
Where did you buy them ?
My first step , before posting about it would have been to take them both back & have the sales person or preferably the owner dry fire them.
They have the ability to swap it out right there & save you the wait of sending it back to S&W.

Well at least you have that great SD9ve at hand while you send the 40 back to S&W.

I have to wonder why you bought from this shop, if it was a nightmare? I absolutely won't/don't do business with any shop that doesn't treat me with customer respect! The shop I bought my SD9VE from had several new in boxes. They allowed me to try a few before I made my choice.

BTW, this shop was an hour drive each way, but I also buy reloading supplies from them when in stock. The few shops locally didn't have the SD's in stock, and the sale price was enough for me to make the trip.

Like you I did wonder the same thing, I guess it could be the one nearest to him.
I use the gunshop connected to the range I use so they know me from using the range a lot as well as buying guns, ammo & a rifle.
The 15-22 I got there had problems from the very first , I told them about it & we decided it needed brake in but second time to the range it was no better ,, long story short they did a buy back on that one & let me get another new one.
So now I am either looking at/for Shield 9 or the new LC9s & that will be the first place I look.

but yea iv come to the conclusion that it is broken, going back to the store i bought it at is not an option. and even if i did go i know they would say "looks fine to me" and brush it off or say they will ship it back and i would still have to go back there again to get it. plus they have a NO RETURN policy so im sure they will use that as there excuse not to stand behind the products they sell. going to contact s&w monday, from what ive read there are good about that and have a fast turn around time.

Most guns shops (at least the ones I've been in) won't accept returns on firearms. They aren't being unhelpful...it's a difficult process, and once a gun has been sold, it can't be resold as new (supposedly...I have traded a few guns in that I bought new, and were unfired, and I saw them later in the case marked as new.)

Since the dealer is so far away, and since it wasn't a good experience anyway, call S&W. They will send you a shipping label, they will fix it, and then return it to you.

I'm sure S&W will make it right for you.
I would call & let them know it was not right from the start & that it has never been fired. Also a letter in with the gun explaining the problem.
In the mean time shoot the 9mm you have & let us know what you think
I've had mine over 2 years & am more than happy with it.

so i talked to s&w this morning and they said i should go shoot it, so i did. wow is it unsafe. shot less than 50% of the time i pulled the trigger, also was doing this delayed shot thing, it wouldn't shoot then when you release the presser off the trigger it would go off. was pretty scary. but anyways call them back and told them. they sent me out a shipping label, going out tomorrow. will keep you posted on the results. got a chance to fire the sd9ve today tho:-D very nice gun. i love it, shoots real nice. i hope the 40 will be this nice when it fixed:-D

That is strange. the only problem seems to be with the 40s. The lower portions of the 9 and the 40 are identical, I believe. I would sure think they must have something set incorrectly in the machining operation for the 40's slides, but that would be just a guess. Just for grins, how about popping the slide off the 40 and off the 9 and interchanging them, then try dry firing them to see if there is any difference. Do NOT fire live ammo with them interchanged, just in case there is an issue with the lower.

The slide will fit but the magwells are not the same size. Pull the slide off and try the trigger. If it is still hard to pull then it is in the trigger group if not it is an issue with the striker or safety plunger. If it is in the frame use your finger or something to push back on the sear and see if the sear itself is binding.
