Hello all, I am a new sd9ve owner and new to this forum. I have a question. I put 50 rds thru my weapon and while cleaning it noticed some marks on the slide. Not sure if this is normal or something to be concerned about. FYI ammo used was 115g federal.

First off, congrats on your new SD9VE and welcome to the forum!
Are the marks in the pic on the inside of the slide, or the outside of the barrel/chamber? Looked at mine, (didn't take down) and I didn't see anything like that on mine. If it's on the inside of the slide, I'll have to do a take down and check mine also.

I just picked up my SD9 this week and it does ave some tooling marks in that same area, though they are not as prominent as in your pic.

Welcome from Ohio. Those machine marks shouldn't be there. My SD is blemish free. I know it does not interfere with the guns performance but it's a shame it got past QC like that. I would send the pics to S&W and see what they say.
It is still a great pistol.

That definitely does not look normal, Mine has no machining marks on it. I would call CS and see if they can help, it probably won't affect performance but that is not a very good job of quality control on Smith and Wesson's part.
Here is mine

Thank you all for the replies. The markings are on the side of the slide. I inspected the barrel and found no markings. I will be contacting CS to see what my next step will be.

I just opened up my SD9VE and I don't have anything like that on the inside of my slide. Mine is smooth and finished looking, very neat machining. I would send pics to CS and see what they say.

I agree, send picks to CS. It may not interfere with function but it should not be. Good money spent on a new gun demands quality control. Also those machine marks are dirt catchers.

Mine doesn't have any kind of machining/tooling marks on it either. Flawless function or not, I think a few slipped past QC. Definitely give S&W a call about it...

Matt

Welcome aboard the forum and as a new SD9VE owner.
The machine marks are purely a comsmetic issue that slipped by QC, but will not affect the operation of your gun.
I'd send a couple of HD photos to S&W's customer service for ***** and giggles to get their response.

Did you send pics or just describe the issue?

The marks you see are chatter marks left by the machining tool. It is cosmetic and won't affect gun's function in any way, and I see you contacted CS at S&W. I hope they fix it for you.
I'm not OCD, but even that would make me batty just knowing it's there.

As I posted earlier, mine has similar marks, but nowhere near a promient as the OP's. Trying to decide whether it's worth it to bother contacting CS.

in two or three years, those marks will become real nuisances everytime you clean the gun. They will trap stuff like crazy. To some, this would mean nothing, to others, this would make them want a new gun (not a bad thing).

Glad to know that this does not affect the operation of the gun. It does bother me seeing them. Will post results once news from CS comes back.

So is it on it's way back, or are you still waiting on the return label?
