Red face SDVE Frame Flex

I recently posted a comment in which I said that putting grease between the trigger bar and the plastic frame (thin, right side) significantly smoothed the trigger pull.

With the slide off trigger actuation shows that the trigger bar barely touches, even may not touch, the inside of the frame.

With the gun reassembled, trigger action causes a noticeable movement of the frame on the right side, indicating that the trigger bar is rubbing on the frame. I can't see anything in the slide that would cause the trigger bar to move towards the frame but it does on my SD9VE CA.

You can see, and feel, the frame flex.

Is this unique to my gun or is it a normal action?

[This may not merit a new thread and if anyone objects I will take this down.]

What's happening is the finger on the trigger bar is hitting the striker plunger off center. Mine does this a little bit, but no where near the extent of what I've seen videos of. All I did was gently bend the finger out toward the center of the mag well to alleviate the issue. If you hold your pistol upside down with the mag out, slowly pull the trigger while looking at the bottom of the slide through the well. Chances are you'll see that finger hitting the plunger off center.

Matt

Thanks, that may just be it. I assume you are referring to the striker blocker plunger. There is another finger that hits a linear cam in the slide but that is completely neutral in it's ability to cause side to side pressure. I'll have a look.

Absolutely correct! I did a lot of looking but never thought to look up through the magazine area.

It's clear that the finger on the trigger bar is indeed hitting the striker blocker significantly off center. This would account for the side pressure on the trigger bar, and also would cause the striker blocker to be lifted just a bit late, but apparently not late enough to prevent the striker from being released.

On the other hand, there may be guns out there that have had fail to fire events that are caused by this condition. It might be worth while for other owners to look at this area.

About the other cam, it only comes into play during recoil, I assume to cause the "sear" to engage, or clear, the striker lug.

Here I thought I was doing a thorough analysis and never even thought to use that view.

Thanks again,

DW

Not a problem. I can still see the side flex just a little bit, but it barely moves. I saw a video where it looked like the frame was bowing out past the slide. Unless it was just the camera angle...

I think I saw the same video, in slow motion. Could have been a Glock but in any case the plastic was flopping all over the place.
