Used SW9VE Mag Problems
Hey all,
I recently bought a used SW9VE from a pawn shop that only came with one magazine. I have looked everywhere but all i can find in the "mag repair kit" department is nothing... I live in Colorado which you may or may not know limits the round capacity to 15 and as the SW9VE has a 16 round mag i can't get them unless i drive to Utah or something. I have looked at a few other threads, and they all seem to be outdated... I get it i got a SW9VE not a SD9VE but i can't even find mag kits for those either.... From what i gather they are the same basic mag with a different base plate. Does any one know where i can get a few mag kits for my SW? Maybe have one or two for sale? Thanks guys!

Don't know about how you go about getting a 16 round magazine into your state. I do know that most folks (including me) can really only get 15 rounds in anyhow.
I do know that I have seen on the S&W website, the place where they compare various guns, that they do reference the ability to use other magazines.
One of my very best friends lives in Denver but I haven't seen him in person since 1954.
Interesting that the state legalizes weed but doesn't legalize one more round.

It came with one 16 round mag. I can get 10 rounders but i would like to have a few backup 16 round mags as well... I honestly wouldn't mind having 15 round mags but I am not sure they exist... I am trying to find a place that sells 16 round mag kits for the SW9VE but so far haven't found anywhere.

Greg cote llc, Midway U.S.A., and J&G sales NO MAG REPAIR KITS. Thanks for trying but not there... Does any one know if there are any other magazines that fit the sw9ve? 15 round 9mm double stack magazines that might fit?

Ok here goes, I live in a state that has limits on every mag post 1994, 10 round limit unless pre 94. It is tough. I would guess a 10 round mag is better than none at all.
Just my .02

Don't know what you are talking about when you say "mag kit", but the three above businesses sell replacement mags for your pistol. I have bought several 16 rounders and they work great.

Summit Gun broker has used Sigma mags, though I don't know what the round count is on those.
FWIW to the previous poster, I have no problems getting 16rds into any of my SD9VE mags. Not sure what the issue may be with yours.

S&W and every other dealer I have checked will not ship 16 round magazines to California and a couple of other states.
They all spell it out. They automatically check zip codes.

,
A lot of great people here & they do always want to help.
First what is wrong with the mag you have, what does it not do.
Don't know that I have ever heard of a mag repair kit , what is to repair maybe a broke or wore out spring.
My guess is that you may not be able to have a 16 rounder shipped to you & by the the way was the pawn shop not breaking the law by selling you one with a 16 round mag ?
First thing I would do is get a couple of 10 round mags shipped.

Honestly there is nothing wrong with my current mag, the "repair kits" are nothing more then a disassembled magazine which is shipped to people in states that don't allow "hi cap" mags... It is illegal to assemble them however the burden of proof is on the range officer, or police officer or whoever is wrighting the ticket to prove that you didn't have it pre ban... It is also legal to simply drive across state lines and buy one and bring it back... It is legal to give it to someone but not to sell it, at least that is how it works in colorado.

If the law in Co. limits your mags. to 15 rounds that means the 1 you have now is illegal, yes ?
Unless you are Grandfathered ?

Check me on this but my understanding of the California law is:
1. If you lived in California and owned a gun not on their registry before the law came into effect, it's grandfathered in.
2. If you move to California from elsewhere and owned a non-registry gun, you can legally bring it with you.
3. If you live in CA and decide to go out of state with the intent of buying an item not on their registry, you are breaking the law.
Maybe the CA folks can tell me whether this is an accurate representation of their gun laws.

I've checked a site that askes for zip code, put in mine no, put in my friends yes. I have a carry license in his state. I can go buy it yet soon as I come across the line its a felony. You have to be sure there preban. Most sig's should be. Like another friend said, as mags are not marked per say most LEO's will go with when the gun was made. .. dont know but thats what I hear ...

I'm getting worried here...really folks you don't know what to do. Simple. Buy a 16 round magazine for your SD9VE, SW9 SD9, what ever. Take the floor plate off. Take a 3/4" long piece of rubber tubing, wooden dowel, .380 brass case, plastic rod, anything that is about 1/4 diameter. Then epoxy it to the floor plate. Now you have a FIFTEEN (15) round magazine.

Agree with the 10rd mag in Colorado. The 16 rd isn't legal, out in the woods, who know's what can occur. Average shooting responses were 3rds in 3 seconds, years ago. Unsure now, but 10rds and 1 in the tube means 11. Will that work?
I own a SD9VE, 2-16 rds mags in the box. Bought a 10 rd as a optional carry for sticky limts in close cities. I also carry a 442 S&W snub as a back up. Your choice, 11 in my SD9, and 5 in my J frame are good.
16rds are allowed her, but other cities have banned them within an hours drive. You need to address this in your decision.
