Default Another great day at the range

I went out again today and shot another 150 rounds out of the ol shooter.
This time I went 25 yards just to see what I could do.
Not the best, but not bad for a rookie.
I still have alot to learn on stance and grip.
But I can actually take the time now that it is not jamming on me.

Looks like everything hit the target with only a few flyers. With practice, you should see your group get smaller, but I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of any of that! :-)

Try using a 3" target dot in the center for an aiming point. Concentrate on basic marksmanship and unless you need to be, don't be in a hurry-slow & steady, sight picture, sight alignment, breath control and squeeze. Keep up the good work :-)

Thank you very much.
I have been out of this stuff for many years. And since I started back, I have been talking about it alot, and stuff.
But I have a few people who always want to talk smack about the type of gun I have, ( WHY DON'T YOU GET REAL GUNS)
(YOU CAN ONLY SHOOT PAPER AT 5 YARDS)
And the anti gun ones are saying I am.just waiting to go postal, and join the gun nut club

I told one that I wouldn't go postal, but I prefer to go Doc Holliday.
Thanks again for the tips.
I am going again this weekend

I too got out of shooting for a while; takes a while (and practice) to get back what you once had! I wouldn't worry about what others say about your choice of handguns or your practice regiment-the only person you have to satisfy is YOU.

And don't think you can't learn something new, because I've been working on things to help make me a better shot/marksman. I've also tried to rid myself of some things that weren't working for me; just takes time and self-evaluation as to what YOU want to accomplish. Shooting should be enjoyable, as any hobby should be (and that's what it is to me, a hobby). The only pressure I have is what I put on myself; and sometimes that's too much! LOL

Keep practicing, but have some fun too! :-)

Thanks. I needed something g else to do after I gave up dirt track racing.
I thought with this hobby, the guns hold better value than any car, I can do it alone if I want, and I can use it when life depends on it.
I have a wish list of certain guns I want.
But right now I am going by what Hank Jr says.
You have to have a shotgun, rifle and 4 wheel drive, for a country boy to survive.
I have the truck and rifle, and found a shotgun to buy from a friend

I have been (had been) a gigging musician for over 43 years. Last July, I played my last shows and haven't touched any of my guitars since. Music has always been a part of my life, but now I can't bring myself to listen to my album collection (yes vinyl) or go listen to live music on the weekends.

Shooting/reloading is something I can do on my own, at my leisure and whenever I choose. Yeah, I traded one (expensive) hobby for another (expensive) hobby LOL But I'm happy with what I do and I strive to better myself and my marksmanship. And should the need arise, I should be able to defend myself and my family.

I won't be surprised if your "wish list" keeps getting longer! There will always be "something else" that comes along that you'll want to add to your "collection"! LOL Don't worry, you won't be the only one afflicted

I see it like when I was racing. I started out with a junker and before I retired, I was a champion. After 20 years.
So I just have to start slow and upgrade from there.

You've got a good start! Small steps-at 25 yards, most of your rounds are pretty centered on the target. Next time out-50 rounds @ 25 yards. You had very few rounds in the outer-most ring. With 50 rounds, keep all 50 inside the second outside ring-to-center. When that happens (and it will), then move your group to the next inner ring. It'll get tougher to do, but when you do it-you'll have a real sense of accomplishment!
And with 50 rounds, you'll be able to keep track of where your rounds are hitting; this should give you an idea of what you need to work on with grip, stance, sight alignment, etc. Let me know how your next range session goes; and don't forget-dry firing is cheap practice!

I always start by putting a few in the target at 25 yards, but self defense is most likely going to be a lot closer.
I bring the target in to 8 or 10 yards , holster my pistol turn my back to the target , then turn around draw & shoot , not fast but smooth.
Be safe but don't forget to have fun

If you shoot indoors on a controlled range, what does the range manager/master think of turning around and shooting?

Not sure what you are asking
Maybe one of us is reading or writing wrong
,
I can't see where any range officer would have a problem you holstering your pistol & turning around, then turning back & continuing to shoot.
I'm not using a mirror & shooting over my shoulder :roll eyes: yet

Most ranges, indoor or outdoor around here, won't even allow you to have a weapon in a holster; let alone draw from one!

Guess I am just lucky. I think every one that works at the range I am a member of wears a holstered weapon.
They do have a sign saying not to bring in loaded weapons & I do not. Once in my lane I load my pistol & holster it, I never asked, they have never said not to.
I do not see the point of self-defense training were you would always already have the gun in hand.
My wife has 2 carry purses & a holster I have encouraged her to draw & fire from each.

At the range I go to, the owner, and workers are all wearing holsters.
I have not bought one yet.
