Default New SD40VE

Picked up a new SD40VE last night as Academy had them on sale for $299.00 and they are hard to find at a lower price around here.

Haven't done anything but dry-fire it when I brought it home. The trigger is definitely a little heavy right now but not so heavy that I could not hold it on target.

This will be a cheap self-defense pistol so I am just going to dry-fire it and practice with it and see if it gets a little lighter.

It seems really well made and I am looking forward to using it as my carry gun, especially in the car cross draw in a paddle holster that I bought for my M & P40C. It seems to fit perfectly!

Now, I'm going to shoot the dickens out of it at the range until I know it is reliable enough to carry!

Congrats! IMHO, the sd40ve is a lightweight, reliable shooter. I carry mine in a crossdraw while driving and at the 3o'clock position owb when out and about.

Thanks for the replies. This particular paddle holster is adjustable for cant and can be worn just about anyway except small-of-back.

In an auto, it is most handy at the cross draw position and I would probably just carry it OWB the same with a good cover garment.

I could adjust it to 3 o'clock/4 o'clock carry if I so choose and prefer this style but, in an auto, cross draw is way more reachable and comfortable to carry any handgun for protection!

I have both a Carrini Leather paddle holster with an actual adjustable-for-cant leather paddle and a Galco CCP paddle which is also adjustable-for-cant. Both are very comfortable and well made Right now, the Carrini model gets carried more often.

Best bang for your buck out there. Practice, learn the trigger and keep away from the aftermarket ****. As far as shoot the dickens outta it until you know it's reliable. It wont take long to see that it is.You're gonna love it.

Thanks Willcoe, I am sure I will love it. Never been one to add much of anything to my guns. Don't want or need any of the "Tacticool" stuff hanging off it and I don't plan to do anything to the guts of the pistol. Don't even use a light on my pistols.

As a retired LEO and Army veteran I am sure you can appreciate this. "lighter is better" when the stuff goes down.

69Hemi, I agree with the "lighter is better". I will say that I did get a light for mine because it is my "bedside" firearm. With a long narrow hallway from bedroom to stairs. It made sense to have one.
Enjoy your SD, you're gonna love it.

Willcoe, no problem if you feel the need to put a light on yours. I just do not want anything on mine. My light will be in my other hand. Never liked the idea that you had to point your weapon at someone to identify them. Just me.
My bedside gun is a G21 and , in close quarters, I practice point shooting as you will not be looking for the sights in a high-stress situation anyway. If you take the time to look for the sights, well................... you know the rest.

69 Hemi, When I say a narrow hall way I am not kidding. A standard separate, free hand carry of a light is not feasible.

Ha, That must be a pretty narrow hallway! Anyway, it's all good. A lot of people like a light on their home defense pistol. I just never have felt the need. Certainly, to each his own.

I've got about 1200 rds through my .40. It shot great out of the box with the stock trigger and it shoots great with the Apex trigger kit I put in it. I plan on getting the 9mm when Black Friday comes and I'll probably just leave the stock trigger in as I have no need to change it out. Good gun, S&W must be making a fortune on these.

Just got mine yesterday. I was really surprised by the quality at this price range. The machining is very good. Put 200 rds through it this evening. Really like it so far.

A friend of mine said the SD9/40VE's will be on sale at Academy Outdoors for $289.00 and get a $25.00 Academy gift card with purchase on Black Friday!
I might see a 9mm version in my near future!
