Default SW40F Slide locking while shooting

I recently purchased a used SW40F. It's in good condition but it has definitely had some rounds go through it. Here's the issue.
About every 2 or 3 rounds, the slide will stay in a locked position like the mag is empty. I release the slide without a problem and 2-3 rounds rounds later it happens again.
What direction should I go with this issue?

Call S&W or take it to a gunsmith.

Ihad a similar issue with my SD40 VE Smith and Wessson sent me a new slide stop and spring. I replaced that and have not had any issues since. Seems the spring was a weak one as the new one has gone well over 200 rounds. The original one started giving me issues around the 300 mark.

Jeep,

EBK, is correct. Get them to send a slide release lever and spring.

It is however, a tricky installation... especially without a slave pin.

EBK, did they send a slave pin as well to help with the spring install? That can be a very frustrating fix without one.

Nope, I just used a slightly smaller pin punch to hold it all in place while I slid the pin in place.

Thanks for the replies. It ended up being a broken slide lock spring. I ordered a new slide lock that comes with a new spring. While I had the gun apart I also installed the Apex trigger along with a 20lbs slide spring and stainless spring guide from gunsprings.com. I am very happy with results. The gun is much more enjoyable to shoot.

Excellent jeep.

Yeah the Apex parts work wonders. Really improves the action.

Glad it worked out.

Default Sd40 ve slide issues

I just bought a used Sd40 ve when i rock the slide back it locks open everytime. Im not sure if its a problem with the spring on the lock lever or just the way im holding the weapon. If its not suppose to do this should I send it back. I purchased it on Gunbroker.com

Are you doing this with an empty magazine in the grip? The empty mag should lock the slide back (by lifting the slide lock).
