So I read that you can get a Glock 19 gen 3 guide rail for about $10 off Ebay and it will work in a SD9VE, is this true?

Reason I ask is factory spring is 17# and the Glock 19 is 20# leading me to think I would get more even recoil when shooting the gun since at 20# my old man's Glock 19 Gen 4 eats all ammo up. I figured for $10 it might be worth trying out to see if it helps with recoil.

I mainly shoot 115hp and 147g jhp (carry round).




Also anyone in the mood to recommend me any night sights that they found were great quality that are similar spec to default sights? I have never felt the need to upgrade my sd9ve but I'm thinking of getting a glock trigger (must admit I like them) and some better sights.

I don't have an SD9VE but I do have a 40 and a buddy has a Glock 23

I think I will test the guide rod assembly interchangeability later today.

As for night sights, I believe most of the major brands make them for the SDVE.

Met buddy who had a G23 at the range and we swapped guide rod assemblies with my SD40VE

We each then shot a box of Freedom Munitions Reman 180gr jacketed flat nose rounds.

Both guns worked flawlessly with no noticeable difference.

Seems like if the 40 and the G23 work, than the 9 and G19 should, no?

I was merely testing interchangeability.

But for what it is worth, there was no noticeable difference at all in feel and/or performance.

I don't think it will reduce recoil per say BUT it *should* spread it out and be a more of a even push. The idea was that the accuracy might go up a little.

If you are thinking that it will let you get back on target faster, I really didn't notice any difference.

But, I suppose that it could be because they were 40S&W. 9mm being milder, perhaps there might be a difference in feel.

Be nice if you could do a blind study, shooting it without knowing which is installed. That would be telling.

I actually could, I could bring my old man to the range and just have him swap springs (not telling me which he installed) and see which wins with a multiple spring switch out to see if it was luck or not.

Once I get this cash into my paypal account I will pick one up and see. I mean if nothing else I bought a backup which never hurts.

You said your old mans Glock was a Gen 4 right? If so, that recoil spring will not work on the SD9. All size Gen4 Glocks use the same type of spring as the G26/27 subcompacts which is different than Gen3 Glock spring/rod assembly and the S9/SD9VE. Back on topic though, the Gen3 Glock 19 guide rod and recoil spring assembly will work fine in the SD9VE, and they also make a 20# replacement spring/rod setup for the SD9 specifically as well. From my own testing, 350ish rounds with each, both setups seem to work equally well. There isn't much difference in felt recoil with standard pressure loads between the 17 & 20 lb springs, but with faster +P and other hot defense rounds the 20# setup does help the slide not bang back quite as hard which does create a slight benefit for the shooters follow up shots. The 20# spring will function fine with regular 115 FMJ as well, so it is not soley for heavy and super hot loads. Also, I have the Apex replacement trigger and spring kit for my SD9VE as well, the spring kit I would certainly recommend as it gives a much more positive reset, a lighter ~5lb break, and smooth take up. The actual trigger replacement itself though I would not buy again simply because the cost ($75-85) was not worth the return IMO. I do like having a Glock style trigger vs the hinged S&W trigger but it's just not a huge enough difference for me to say it's worth that amount of money. If you absolutely hate the hinged trigger it may be worthwhile for you to get the Apex trigger but otherwise it's not a necessary upgrade, again IMO.

You know you can buy a new full length guide rod and a separate spring from Wolfe, Midway, etc.

Oh I know it wont, I was just planning on buying the spring (gen 3) and having him swap it out at the range for a test. I myself LOVE the trigger on the SD9VE, I don't care for the Glock style trigger (one of the two reasons I didn't buy a Glock 19) but I do wish it had less travel, but with no safety I understand why they did it. I mean $50 for a trigger is down right piracy imho.


Have you noticed any light striking on your cartridges? My biggest reason to date for not buying the spring kit is reading a few people with this issue, I carry daily with this pistol so you can imagine why I worry over this.
