Hello there,
I purchased a SD9VE close to a year ago. I had some reservations about this particular pistol from previous research I had done, however I decided to bite the bullet and purchase the firearm. One of the main complaints that I saw many owners having was the horrendous weight of the trigger pull, and not surprisingly I found myself complaining about the same thing. After doing some more research on the web, I discovered there were a few different trigger kits that included a new trigger assembly which, once installed, reduced the trigger pull weight substantially.
So, long story short, I purchased one of the kits and attempted to install the new trigger assembly (and from what I've read, thus voiding my factory warranty.) It took me roughly 1.5 hours to install, with the hardest part being the re-assembly of the new trigger assembly. After everything seemed to be in order I put the slide back onto the pistol frame, lined it up, and pulled it back to lock it into place aaaannnnnddd oh *****, something doesn't feel right...
I try to field strip the pistol immediately and see that it has become "stuck" on something inside. In other words, I can pull the slide all the way back, it will stay locked back as it normally would without any ammunition in the pistol, and it will return to the normal "resting" position. However, to field strip a pistol, the slide must be able to freely move forward, which it does not. The pistol moves about 1/8" forward before getting "stuck" on something internally.
Since I'm about 99% sure that I've voided the warranty, I figured that taking it to a local gunsmith would most likely be the cheaper option. But I wanted to first create an account on the forums and see if I could get any opinions from some more experienced users. I have messed with this pistol for hours on end attempting to get the slide free again, but I've had no luck.
I guess my first question is, do you guys think that it's possible to get this gun apart again? Which kind of leads into my second question, if it is possible, do you think it's worth it? Most of the local gun smiths in my area charge $50-$75 per hour. For the unaware, this pistol is available for under $300, so my concern is that even if a gunsmith looks at it and messes around with it for 3-4 hours, and is unable to fix it, I've essentially wasted the same amount of money trying to fix the pistol as it would have taken to just buy a new one.
Any thoughts/advice/recommendations are extremely welcomed.
By the way I'm located in Houston, Tx.
Thanks guys
