Default Sd40 Trigger pin fell out, slide stuck.

So I've had my sd for almost a year now,I've never had any issue with it but long story short I let a first time shooter use it earlier, and the pin started falling out,I didn't see but he said he tried to "push it back in" and it came out completely. So now I'm stuck figuring out how to get it back in. I also can't remove the slide now because it gets hung up. If anyone has a suggestion how I can get the pin in without sending it or bringing it to a shop please let me know.

If the gun is SAFE and you can verify that condition with certainty. Try pulling the trigger to release the striker, pull down on the lever and remove the slide. It may not be easy and it may require you to use both force and finesse. If that fails you might have to try and return the pin at least partially to get the gun disassembled. If that fails I would recommend you visit your local gunsmith or gun shop and seek out their assistance.

My notion would be to send it to the factory so they can diagnose and repair . . .

This would absolutely depend on knowing the gun is safe.

Hey shorty,

I know exactly what you are talking about and can help.

There is no need to send it back and definitely no need to go to a gunsmith.

It is also very difficult to try to put a procedure down in writing.

I have sent a pm so we can schedule my talking you thru it.

Doc

Thanks for the replys, thanks for the offer doc but I managed to fix it last night. It wasn't fun but once the slide was off I played with the whole assembly for about a half hour and everything's back to normal now .
If anyone else needs help let me know I might be able to walk you through what I did.
Looks like this has happened to a few people so I'll be careful to watch it and possibly find a fix or send it in if it happens again/frequently

This has been reported several times. What can you tell us to do to prevent it from happening?

Hey, ou

This is is the first I have seen about the pin walking out on its own. The other times someone has taken the pin out. See, it locks into place.

But, if you are worried about it happening, a very small drop of blue loctite on the RIGHT HAND side of the frame on the pin end should keep it there.

Shorty, glad you got everything back in place. See what I mean about the procedure being difficult to try to put in writing?

Doc

Yup, I hadn't but remembered that.

Wonder how it can just walk out if it's locked in? Maybe wear in some grooves?

Grooves look fine still. The only thing I can think of is the way my buddy pulled the trigger or something made it loosen then obviously firing it added to the cause. Its nice and snug now but if it happens again I'll make a new one or something

There just has to be something. I have the SD9 but believe the 9 and 40 are identical in all functional features.

Stock trigger?
