BTW, I don't think it was failure of the pistol, I cleaned prior to shooting, something happened when I cleaned, I got some oil on the spring and accidental move the spring.
The SD9 has been great for me so Far.

What's interesting to me is the bar it holds is referred to as "Barrel stop", which I believe is the correct name and purpose.
It's usually referred to here as a "Take Down Lever/Bar".
It's interesting that it popped out. It looks like it goes down under some structure. I've never had mine out but did restrain it when I put in rhe NDZ barrel stop.
I wish you quick success in finding one.

When you order a new one, just go ahead and order two or three.
If it happened once it will happen again and having a spare on hand is well....handy .
Besides if you order extra's that will ensure you never loose that part again. I know this for a fact !

Yeah its strange, never seen that happen either. Like I say I cleaned shortly before it happened. Must have gotten some oil or something got stuck in it. Not sure, I don't oil any of those parts, maybe a drip got in there. I found the take down tab, it looked fine. Spring didn't break, it was still under tension, It really flew.
I'm a little disappointed I can find a parts list for the SD, its been out for a few years.

This parts list issue was discussed this week in another thread. The bottom line, apparently, is that S&W doesn't intend to release one. Reason is "Liability".

The picture at Smith & Wesson Barrel Stop Spring S&W SW40C SW40E SW40F SW40G SW40GP doesn't look like the right part for the SD9VE.
That picture shows a round wire spring, whereas my SD9VE (and my older SD9) have a flat spring to hold the takedown lever (or "plate") in the "up" position. The flatness may be important, because one end of the spring has to fit into the frame. Does the OP remember what the spring in your particular SD9VE looked like?
You can find a part for the Glock 19 that fits the same role. There are a number of them shown on the interweb, for sale by various vendors. Glock uses at least two variations -- one, flat; the other, round wire. You could TRY the Glock spring if you want to give that a whirl. Or, just call S&W and ask for the part...

Called S&W, explained the flying spring loss, they are sending me a replacement. A warning to anyone removing the slide takedown bar, be prepared for the spring to jump out and be eaten by the carpet monster!

Lost my Green Spring (SD9VE Slide Bar Spring). Called S&W and ordered a replacement. Last week ordered a Glock 17 Stop Spring (from Glockparts.com); came in the mail today. The Glock 17 spring fits and appears to work.
I will install the S&W green spring when it arrives. In the mean time I will test the gun at the range to see if the Glock 17 spring holds up for 50 rounds.

Why not 51 rounds? Odd numbers spook you?

I was replacing the takeown lever/Barel Stop lever and the spring will not come up. I have been looking for a replacement looks like I will have to call S&W to order. How dificult is it to replace? I just put in the Apex trigger and spring set. Also on my Glock the little tab on the reease lever face the rear, is it the same on the SD? Mine slid out before I could notice.

I asked S&W that question and the answer is no. They did finally send me athe barrel stop spring for my SD40VE which I am sure is the same for the 9. The part number is 25027000.
UPDATE that number is for the older SD model I have the newer model so the spring is to short, S&W are sending me the correct one. I hope!
Since their are no part numbers available perhaps a thread where anyone who gets a part can post the number.

Finally got the spring
Went online to S&W chat and explained what happened. I was told that part number was the correct one. I told him it did not reach the lever, it's to short. He checked and said I have the newer model which takes a longer spring and he would put it in the mail that day. I asked for a part number and was told he didn't have one because it's not something they normally ship. I bet that changes!
Well it came today and while installing it it flew out, luckily I found it and was able to get it back together. I don't expect to be replacing it again because I am never removing the barrel stop lever again.
On another note I got a call yesterday from S&W about my original return when I explained everything, ( except they they were already sending me one). She said she would make sure she sends out the correct spring, so I should have a spare.
By the way this spring is green, the short one is silver if that helps anyone.

Is this the spring that you all are talking about? If so, it DOES fit in the SD/SDVE series guns.
