anybody collect sdve's?
at the price these little gems go for, it would be hard not too, only down side is the price of mags, if smith could find a way to cut mag prices they really would have a winner.

Personally, I don't think there's anything really collectible about them. Just another injection molded, polymer frame mated to a ho hum, same old, same old, metal slide.
Like a Glock, a perfectly functional tool but nothing inherently interesting about them. It's the kind of thing I might stock up on in case of the apocalypse.

I have one each in 9mm and 40 S&W. If I needed several, for whatever reason, I would buy them when on sale @ $279. There are deals out there on the mags, you just have to look and be patient.

I was thinking more on the price point, a handgun for every house hold, they did a good job on keep the price low on the sdve's they could/should do the same with mags, jmho.

The SD magazines are made in Italy by MECGAR under exclusive contract for S&W sale. S&W has no leverage to force MECGAR to change the contract or reduce the price.
MECGAR is the actual maker of OEM magazines for several top brands.
At the present time, SDs are used guns, not collectibles with any special value. About like last year's Toyota Corolla in the car market.

I have both the SW9VE and the SW40VE. I also own an SD9VE. I am still on the fence about buying an SD40VE. That's money that I can invest in my AR's, or buy a Ruger LE9. The LE9 is Ruger's equivalent to the SD9VE. Or, a Ruger American pistol. I would want that one in .45 ACP though.
Decisions, decisions............

I two was looking at ruger American, in 9mm though, before I went with smith's sd9ve, seen reviews of people complaining about rugers back straps pintching, seen nothing but good reviews on the sd9ve, except some trigger complaints, the American is heavy and $100+ more, if you lurk the ruger fourms it doesn't seem as the American pistol is selling to well, so deals may in order!

I wouldn't say that I collect them, but I have quite a few. None are safe queens and all are accurate and reliable. Most of the magazines I have were bought on sale for around $25.
Even at that price, I have several hundred $ worth of magazines.
I think you made the right choice vs the Ruger. The SD9 is the right size for 9mm and the ergos are all there.

I dont want to start a caliber war the 9x19 with new technology has jumped leaps and bounds ... that same technology has enhanced not only the 9mm but tbe 40 S&W and other calibers also .
The 40 S&W with 180grs is what seperates it from the 9mm ..
Having said all that .. I have 5 pistols in 9x19 , 4 in 45acp and only one in 40 S&W and it is the SD40VE

If two makes a collection, then yes I collect the SD9VE. I had a SD40VE, but had an opportunity to trade it for a Ruger SR40c, so now I have a collection of two of those. The SD9VE is a fine pistol at a very good price but not a collector's item. Now, older S&W revolvers are another story for another thread.

I don't see them ever having any collector interest. Just another Tupperware pistol. Sort of like collecting hammers.

Not now, but eventually they will be collectible - see early production Glocks for a reference.
.40 magazines are on sale...

I have a superb hammer collection.
I just didn't know it until I started unpacking from the last move.
