Sigma seized up
After eight (8) years my SW40VE jammed up at range quals today. Two rounds left in magazine, fired round ejected and........The slide locked up locked up solid at about 85-90% open. Mag came out fine, take down buttons okay, slide release lever is free. The slide/barrel/recoil spring guide are all solid with no play at all. Using Winchester "Winclean" BEB 180 gr factory loads.
CALLING S&W Customer Service Monday a.m.!!!!

All I can think is perhaps the locking block portion of the barrel failed, or some lever jumped out of place and bound her up. We'll see. I can drive to S&W in just over an hour

Same here. I have never heard of S&W sending a box to ship a firearm back to them.

Very interested to hear what happens, will they fix it or swap you for a SD40VE?
Do you know how many rounds approximately the firearm had fired in itself lifetime?

I'm hoping for a fix if possible.....Not really interested in SD40VE, as my Sigma is an "Allied Edition" with all black melonite slide. I'd bitch for a voucher towards an M&P 9, as this is a duty gun.
As far as round count? About 1200-1500 rounds. Mostly Winchester 180 gr. BEB's and 180 gr. JHP duty ammo

How long to wait?
Okay Smith got this at 10:10am Yesterday. Anybody know when I might get an initial hello from them? I did enclose a note that this is (was) a duty weapon..............
Should I call customer service to follow up tomorrow?

Smith61, I'd give them at least a week to let them figure why the jam up. They need to test and find the problem, then change out what parts they find weak, broken and such. Then retest to make sure it fixed problem.
Then after all the testing, the gunsmith will fill out a warranty report for company/you and send back, so it does take some time and they want it correct.
If they don't know this is a duty weapon, then by all means give them a call and let them know you need faster than ASAP.
You might need to speak to your sergeant to see if they have a loaner gun to borrow while yours is being repaired.

7 working days in......
Last Thursday, the CS fellow says "Hmmmm, I don't see a note on the order that it's a duty weapon, lemme annotate that for you".
So today I call the MRA # in and the dude says "You gotta give us about three or more weeks for that turn around time." I remind him it's a duty weapon. "Nothing about that in the notes, but if you told them that I'm sure they're fast tracking it." LOL!!!!!
Guess I'll have to just get a Glock 19 and new holster while I wait?

Weekly update!!!
So today at 11:13 hours, one week from my last talk with CS, I get a nice guy named Paul....
So this guy promises some action; He knows a guy who can actually go "out on the floor" and see what the story is with my pistol, but that will be tomorrow. Then they'll get back to me.....................

BANG!!!! It's back!
Wow! What a surprise. Fedex just had me sign for my baby. All the invoice says is "Evaluate, replace barrel, passed range testing." That's all folks!
So I'm guessing the barrel failed around the locking block area just forward of the feed ramp. But we'll never know. I'm happy with this warranty issue as far as the resolution and the time it took to get it back.
Thank you Smith & Wesson, especially for leaving my apex spring kit intact!
and thanks to "Paul" in CS, who obviously did send somebody "out on the floor" to speed up the return!
