Default Vintage 2010 SW40VE trigger job

I am wanting to hear current options on a trigger job for my SW40VE. I remember when I first got it I tried taking the pigtail spring out but I don't remember it making a difference.

I see the apex kit is still available but not sure if that's the only option. I don't want to risk the reliability of the firearm is my biggest concern, It is my nightstand gun but occasionally I do carry it.

It's only got maybe less than 500 rounds through it.

I heard before people were sending them in to Smith for warranty adjustment to the trigger but someone said they don't do that anymore. Also since they don't make it anymore does it still have a warranty?

My best advice is shoot it or sell it. I still have a couple I use for loaners, and have tried about every non-destructive trigger mod I've seen: don't bother, IMHO.
The warranty is still good for manufacturer's defects.

Added: The only trigger mod that really helped mine was filing and smoothing inside the sear loop, which requires taking it completely out and reinstalling it correctly. Putting in lighter springs, especially striker springs, made the potential for misfires and dead trigger (failure to reset). Since S&W will no longer sell sear parts for the Sigma, try it at your own risk.

Yeah I will never sell it because of how little it's worth money wise it's worth more to me to have an extra gun. I kinda would like to have the SD9VE instead if I had a choice since the recoil on this one is above average.

I wonder what they would do if something broke on an old gun like this would they offer to replace it with the current model order would they have parts on hand?

i'm sorry I sold my SW9VE. Did a YouTube trigger job on it and shot the snot out of it. I will have to say that the trigger was a tad bit lighter but not smoother than my new SD9VE. However, I'm sure the SD9VE will get better with use.

I haven't shot mine much it's not pleasant to shoot (trigger+recoil) and I'm worried about life expectancy with it being an entry level handgun in a 40 caliber.

The trigger on my shield 9mm is pretty amazing it's an early 2016 model and that is fun to shoot.

Thumbs up

My SW9 & 40VE are both 2010 models. I bought them on sale for $279 each with a $50 rebate each. The 9mm has well over 5-6K rounds through it. The .40 cal. has about 4K through it. Will I ever get rid of them? Yes, when I pass away and they are handed down to my son. I will say this though; it's very strange to shoot either one of them for long periods of time, then, to start shooting the SD9VE right afterwards. The difference in trigger pull is amazing!
BTW, I have my eye on a Ruger LE9. To be continued......

That's reassuring about the high round count durability. I paid $299 for mine and opted for the two extra magazines instead of the rebate so I have four mags total since it came with two.
