Default Do M&P magazines fit SD pistols?

Do M&P magazines fit SD pistols in 40 S&W? A store by me has the SD on sale, thinking it might be good to buy one before Hildibeast is elected. The store sells the SD pistol but not the magazines. They sell M&P magazines, lol.

No, the M&P mags won't fit in the SD series--from what I've read here. The older Sigma series mags reportedly do fit & function, tho the floorplate design is different.

Check around, you can find some decent prices online. If it's a new SD on sale, it should come with two mags, btw.

No, unfortunately, the M&P magazines won't work in the SW or SD series pistols. That would be a major plus for buyers if the same magazines all worked in the various polymer pistols, like 1911 magazines will fit any standard 1911 pistol.

As mentioned, the Sigma magazines will work in the SD pistols, and vice versa...only the base plates are different. I generally buy my magazines from Greg Cote LLC...he has comparable prices, and great service. I've never seen Sigma or SD magazines for sale in any local shops, in my area anyway. You might try Academy Sports.

Is the SD40 worth $300.00 new? A local store has them on sale until next week.

$300 for a new S&W pistol, with two mags--I'd say it's worth it.

It's your money, and you'll have to decide that yourself

Academy Sports has them regularly for $319.99, and on sale occasionally for $299.99 (why they don't round up the penny I don't know.) There's another thread about Cabela's having them on sale on 9/10 for $279.99, which is an even better buy.

I think they are certainly worth it.

I checked both Cabelas and gander mountain in my area, they had them priced just under 400. That seems to be the upper end for these pistols. I picked one up today, seems like a serviceable pistol but the trigger is a little on the heavy side. It will work OK as a self defense house gun.

Timely thread. I have an SW9VE that I've had for years. I love shooting it; it's easy to shoot, light recoil so next shot placement is easy and fast.

The SW9VE is the only 9mm I have, though. Based on the 1=0 and 2=1 theory, I'm looking for a new 9mm and considering an SD9VE. This answered one question I had about interoperability of the magazines; thanks for that.

The list price in California is $409 + tax + DROS; most shops offer discounted price from $349 to $379. I'll say $300 is very good price. Just got a SD9VE about 1 month ago and love it. Even if you replace springs and trigger it's still under $400; definitely worth the price. Glock 19 here is about $549 - $579 + tax (9%) + DROS; roughly $650 out door price. $400 (with upgrades) vs $650 (stock), your choice.

Maybe Glock fans don't agree, but I really think Glock is over priced; it should be about the same price as SD's or modified Sigma IMHO. Plastic guns aren't so expensive; it costs roughly $85 to make a Glock according to studies. I shoot SD9VE better than Glock's, BTW, but not in speed though.

Took my new SD40 to the range today, I ran some weapon retention drills along with some move and shoot drills. I started off drawing the SD from the holster at 3 yards from the target, fired 2 shots and moved back to 10 yards keeping the weapon on target as I was moving backward. At the 10 yard line I fired 2 shots, moved to the left 5 yards and fired 2 shots, moved to the right 10 yards fired 2 shots, moved back to center at 10 yards and fired 2 shots. All shots were center mass hits. I taped a sheet of typing paper to the center of the target, move to the 20 yard line using a weaver stance and put all shots in the paper. I ran these drills multiple times, running 400 rounds through the SD with no malfunctions of any kind. It took 200 rounds to train my brain on how the trigger works, by 400 rounds I wasn't having any problems putting all rounds at center mass. I can't really find anything to critisize this pistol on once the trigger is mastered. If someone is sitting on the fense on this pistol I give it 8 out of 10 for a 300ish priced pistol.

The mags don't interchange, but the SD9VE is a good pistol. I used to have one, and eventually gave it to one of my sons. It's a good gun with an alright trigger. Not great, but not horrible either. I would make for a great truck gun or house gun. Nothing worth writing home about, just a reliable pistol offered at a great price.

My only gripe is the little take-down thingees on each side. The idea is that it breaks down like a Glock, but I find that on the SD9VE this is no easy task. (It's a real PITA, actually). I much prefer the lever that they use on the M&P series

There are aftermarket take down plates that extend a bit further out, making it easier to manipulate them. I like the Galloway Precision model the best, since it has a taper (it's wider at the base than at the top) making it easier to snag with your fingertips than the straight-cut models. This has been the first enhancement I've made to every SDVE pistol I've owned (I've had several SD9VEs and a couple of the SD40VEs.)

I agree, it's not a great pistol but it's pretty darn good for what it was designed for. I gave it 8 out 10 because of it's simplicity of operation, easy take down, light weight(22 ounces), good magazine capacity for the 40 and 9mm, clean streamlined appearance, and most importantly, reliability. I'll take reliability any day over a heavy trigger. Trigger could be improved on, with some good practice the trigger can be mastered, at least for me. I don't feel I can't defend myself with this pistol as is with no modifications on the trigger.

Ok, which is it? Some say the mags can be exchanged and you say they can't. I sure would like a definitive answer on this one. If they can be shared, I would consider the SD for my additional 9mms but if they can't be shared and I have to buy new mags then that opens the door to many other options.

I'm almost 100% positive that they won't interchange. I was just looking at the two mags on Greg Cote's site, and they appear to have different body cutouts and mag catch cutouts.

If no one here has both a M&P and a SDVE to try swapping the mags, you could always call S&W. One thing about that, though...a few years back, they told me that the Sigma mags would definitely not fit in the SD series pistols, but they most definitely do. The base plates are different, but they still fit...and I got some SD base plates and put them on the SW mags, and then there was no difference.
