Will an M&P Barrel fit in SD9VE ???
I was over on youtube watching a comparison of the M&P 9 with the SD9VE and the guy made a comment which literally stopped me in my tracks and made me replay the video 3 times to be sure I heard the guy correctly. Heck, I even turned on the closed captions to verify his statement.
He said that he thought the M&P's barrel would fit into an SD9VE though it might be a little bit long for the slide (it would extend slightly past the front opening.
Has anyone done this? Has anyone heard of anyone doing this?
Obviously this would open a whole can of worms, um possibilities, if it's true.

Haven't heard this before. I seriously doubt that the M&P fits the SD

I think the key word in the video is "thought" as in, he didn't know for sure. I don't know for sure either, and no longer have an M&P to try it out, but from memory of disassembly and reassembly, I'd have to guess the barrels aren't interchangeable. The only way to know for sure is to try it out...and if they were, I would have imagined that someone would have already reported it here.

I went to Stormlake Barrels to find pictures of the M&P model barrels.
Go to products, then click on S&W and go to model box and click on it, you'll get to see pictures. Click on direction arrows above the barrel will give 360* views to show some differences.
I'm convinced enough that with the differences between the M&P and SD model, that they won't work if switched.
An M&P may fit inside the slide, but the slide's guide rod/spring mount are different. Also, the M&P's have a barrel collar that reinforces the throat for more strength and possibly keeping the rear of barrel in better alignment within the slide for better accuracy.

Yep..that was exactly what I was thinking of doing - trying to stick a Stormlake barrel into the SD9VE... But you're comments track with my own conclusions after I did a little looking around.
Thanks for the research and comments.

It worked for me, however!
I actually put a 40 m&p barrel in s&w sd 40 and it worked for me. However, I did have 1 failure to fire out of 14 rounds I believe, this was several years back though. The barrel lugs are slightly different, the dimensions are very similar though. If you look at the barrels from a profile view the appear to have the same basic clearences, however, the m&p barrel has some additional contours. I recently bought an m&p 9 mm barrel and it fits as well, however, to insert the slide I had to pull down on the take down tabs to get it to seat while putting the slide on. By hand it cycles and there appears to be no issue, I will be taking it to the range tomorrow and report back. I do not recommend anyone trying this since the lugs are different and the barrel may not allow the pistol to go into full battery, or function correctly.
06/17/2018 I just fired a 9mm M&P 4.25” barrel out of my S&W SD .40. I had to pull down the take down tabs to seat the barrel as I slid on the slide. . I fired 10 rounds without any malfunctions, however, the slide appeared to be sluggish to me, possibly having a harder tme going into battery or maybe it just needed oil. I did not see any other malfunctions or issues. I only had a limited amount of time and I was firing my new 2.0. I will fire some more 9mm out of my SD in the future.

Hey, so how's it going with the mp barrel? I found a neo chrome one that I instantly fell in love with, but noticed that on the mp barrel, there no front facing tooth to grab the take down pinchy Glock rip off ma-bober....take down lever? Any way you know what I'm talking about. Definitely curious as to how it's been firing for a month. So is anyone else here who cares.

If you could put an M&P40 barrel into an SD40VE that would be great. One of the things that turned me off of the SD40VE was the "generous" chamber that tends to create a mild bulge in fired cases. With the snug-all-around chamber of the M&P40, it would make the SD40VE a good full sized California compliant S&W 40 caliber gun.

If your SD40VE is bulging the brass contact S&W & send it back for a new barrel. The ramp was cut wrong if they bulge. I have never had that problem with any of my SDVE pistols.
