Sd9ve vs sigma ve
I've tried to look but haven't found a definitive answer yet. Do the late model sigmas and the sdve series share the same guide rod design? The reason I ask is Wolff spring offers a much greater assortment of recoil springs than anyone else but they aren't captured springs....you use their steel guide rod and spring. If I'm just being stupid let me know. I'm a guy who likes to tinker with things and make them better or make them different ( not sure if a steel guide rod really makes a difference in the sd9ve).
Thanks for any info.

There have been some threads here lately about steel guide rods damaging SDVE pistols, particularly the .40 models. I like the "idea" of a steel guide rod, since it seems inherently stronger, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea in reality. (Kinda like we heard how bad polymer frames were when they first came out, as opposed to steel framed pistols.) I've owned the Galloway RSA in the past, but don't have one now.
As others have said, it seems like a solution in search of a problem...and may actually cause a problem. I recommend the OEM recoil spring assembly.

If you want to switch from the OEM ISMI flat wound recoil springs back to piano wire springs, you're just being stupid. The flat wound springs are far superior.
If you want to buy a Galloway steel rod with an ISMI flat wound spring for 3 times what the OEM assembly costs, at least the gun will still work as well as stock.

Well....thank you gentlemen....you have solved my dilemma. My recoil spring will stay exactly where it is....I like the saying, " it's a solution looking for a problem"...never heard that until this forum. Thanks again....I'll be using this one for a couple thousand rounds and buy a new factory one.

The good news is that the stock assembly typically lasts 10K or more. Suggest you buy a spare stock assembly and just replace it when needed....which may be years from now. Another good spare to have is the trigger return spring.

Yes, they do interchange with each firearm. I just tried it on my SD9VE, SW9VE, and SW40VE.

I generally break in a new SD9VE with 100 to 200 rounds to make certain everything works, and then I use that Recoil Spring Assembly for carry. I have a separate RSA that stays in the range bag. It gets all of the real use. The tested and proven carry RSA goes back in the pistol when I leave the range. Wear is never an issue this way. I also have range magazines in order to limit wear and tear on tested and proven carry mags. I keep my SD9VE's box stock except for the steel M&P rear sight. Anyway this system works for me.
Best Regards,
ADP3

I sent S&W an email a while back about how to get a replacement guide rod assembly for my SD40VE, and they sent me one for free. That's the best price I've found anywhere.

Matt

I put a Wolf Spring 22 lb and steel guide rod in my SW9VE. It changed the recoil feel slightly for the better and was just as reliable as the factory stock unit.

I still have a Galloway 20# spring in my SD9VE that is made for the Glock 19. But, I will be keeping an eye on the internal part of the firearm for ANY problems!
