Well I received a Glock 19 guide rod from eBay. It was a NDZ rod that I paid $15 for. It looks nice but as soon as I put it in the gun you can tell the slide doesn't stop on the intended slide stops but stops on the spring stack up. So I measured the length against my factory one and the difference is almost exactly the thickness of the washer they use to hold the spring on.

No way am I using this thing the way it is. I may try to remove the washer and just use it as a non captive spring and rod to see what happens.

Either way, thought I would just let people know to pay attention when you put these in.

I have the same guide rod which I bought from the same seller. Good luck getting the top screw off that guide rod. You'll probably need to use a torch.

So the problem is the AFTERMARKET rod?

Why not just use the original guide rod?

Yes, the aftermarket rod is the problem.

It's just one of those things, some people feel the need to tinker. If it works and I could use it, why not.

Back when Glocks first came on the market, a buddy and I each bought a model 19. He didn't like the plastic rod, and replaced it with a metal one (brand unknown). His seemed to work OK, but it did fail to lock open on an empty mag once in a while.

Mine, I left stock. Now, with easy over 15 thousand rounds thru mine, it still works fine. Nothing wrong with the stock rod.

Yes I understand that the stock one is perfectly fine. Kind of like people that put k&n air filters in their car....the paper one works just fine and was actually what was engineered to work. And putting a k&n has no substantial benefit but can cause problems.

Just saying, some people like to tinker with things. I wanted to try one out and for $15 bucks it was worth a shot.

I don't know how many 1K's of rounds I have shot through my SD9VE & my SW9VE, each with the Galloway Glock 19 SS guide rod assembly in them, but, they both STILL shoot great! I have read some stories here, on this forum, and, another S&W forum, how these guns will blow up, slides fall off, something on the inside wears out, etc. Mine have not done any of the aforementioned after 1K's of ALL kinds, makes, and brands of 9 mm ammo shot through them. Is there a "MAGIC ROUND MARK" when all of these things are supposed to happen?

I'm wondering if the Galloway one is a better fit than the NDZ one. This one doesn't even have a good feel to it when you open the slide all the way.

Could I just run the guide rod and spring as a non captive assembly. I don't why not. The washer only holds the spring on when the it's not installed.

I have had the Galloway SS guise rod in my SW9VE for almost 4.5 years now. The one in my sd9ve, almost a year. My SW40VE still has the factory guide rod. I tried a Galloway 21 lb guide rod in my .40 that was in a friends SW40VE. I didn't notice any difference from the factory guide rod so I left it stock.
The recoil in my 9's are VERY much improved with the SS guide rods.

My experience has only been with the Galloway stainless RSA specifically made for the SDVE series. I didn't have any problems with mine, and at the time I bought them I did so for mainly cosmetic reasons and because I liked the idea of a steel guide rod. Now, some time later, I've come to realize that the OEM RSA works satisfactorily and well, and the Galloway RSA is a cosmetic addition that may not do any harm, but it also might. Granted, what I've read indicates that the problems that have surfaced are in the .40 models, but there may have been some in the 9mm models that I missed. I haven't and won't order one for my new SD9VE...instead, I'll just request an OEM RSA from S&W to have on hand as a backup.

There are a number of pistols who use a non-captive spring. I guess you'd need to make sure the muzzle end of the spring doesn't have a "sprung" end that might catch the slide.

Since S&W will almost certainly send you a new RSA for free, that would be my recommendation.

Nope, the spring stacks on mine as well.

GKC, I just got off of the phone with S&W. They are sending me (3) new RSA's for my 3 Amigo's (SD9VE, SW9VE, & SW40VE) FREE of charge.

Well the spring is still too big with the washer removed. I could cut a coil or two off to make it work, but what's the point. It won't effect performance enough to justify messing with it anymore.

Oh well.

At the risk of being tarred and feathered by Glock fans, my then new, Generation II, Glock 19 was experiencing frequent failures to close using factory new, Federal and Winchester ammo, Remington also.

I took a guess that the flex in the guide rod may have been the culprit. Long story longer, I made a guide rod from a hex bolt which I turned to spec using a drill press as a lathe and files and crocus cloth. That was 20 years ago and my Model 19 hasn't hiccuped since. Eventually, I replaced the guide rod assembly with a captive spring system---no problems.

As the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke, be sure to fix it."

Not to change the subject too much, but, I was watching "THE GUNNY" show last night on the outdoor channel. As a guest he had a Glock champion shooter demonstrating a new Glock 19 with a magnifier red dot. Even though I dislike Glock very much, the setup looked very interesting.
Also, what caliber is the G19? They stated it was Glocks best seller.

The G19, 26, 34 and 43 are all 9mm.
