SD9VE Compact in 2017?
I know many of you have seen this before, but with the new year comes the anticipation of new guns from S&W.
One of the guns I most want to see are a value priced, subcompact sized, double stack 9mm that can compete directly with the KelTec P11 or Glock 26.
Until S&W makes this gun, I will keep carrying my customized gun that comes the closest to my criteria. I know a lot of people on this forum carry an SD9VE so I think S&W would sell a few SD9VE Compacts if they make them.
My SD9VEK
Yes, I have a M&P9c, but it's bigger and heavier due to the unnessicary (I'm right handed) bilateral controls, interchangeable grips, 1913 style rail and primary design around the .40S&W
Yes, I have a Shield, but it only has 7+1 round capacity and the grip is a little long. I guess what I really want is a Shield with slightly wider magazine to give 10 or 11 round capacity and a slightly shorter grip.

I wish! However, even before all this M&P2.0 effort, I'd still have said highly unlikely. Now, I think it's more of a "SD-what?" I'd be amazed if they did anything other than let the SD-VEs fade away into history.
For whatever reason, I love the look, handling, and the ergonomics of that pistol better than Glocks, M&Ps, or even, dare I say it, the 3rd Gen guns.
If I send you one, will you make me a compact version?? Somebody should be making them!

While we are wishing, how about improved grip texture for the entire VE line?

That is actually just the new SD9 (non VE) which has the new improved grip texture. I have one but it's not a regular shooter.

Have you looked at one since they improved the grip texture about a year ago. They have pretty sharp texturing now. Too rough for my to carry concealed with. The old texture was definately too slippery though and I did my own texturing on the old ones.

If it were not a serialized part then I would, but unfortunately I can't. Part of me wishes they used a serialized chassis like Kel Tec or SIG P250/320.
Chopping off part of the serialized frame made me at first, but it's worth it.

What did you do to the mag. I see the grip is shortened. I like what you did. That's my complaint with mine also. Grip is to long to cc comfortably

I cut about 3/4 of an inch out of it near the bottom and silver soldered it back together. It holds 11 rounds now, which is close to the M&P9c but it's thinner.

For a different texture, look into Talon or Traction grips. I have them on all of my plastic pistols, and they make a world of difference.
Very nice work on the shortened grip, by the way. That's outstanding!

I dunno, I just ain't seein' it. Sure, "S&W would sell a few SD9VE Compacts if they make them", but they'd sell "a few" of literally anything they made. The question is, is there enough of a demand/ hole-in-the-market that it would be worth the trouble?
If it was irresistably economical, it would at least get my attention, but I don't think it's likely to be, and, I'm thinking the 9c and Shield have this niche too well covered already, for S&W to feel justified in trying to squeeze a SD9VE-compact into their line-up.
FWIW, JMHO.

Any way you could post a new picture of your sd9vek? The old pictures aren’t available anymore and I’m interested to see what a compact sd would look like. Thanks
