Default SD9VE slide takedown catch problem

Hi guys
New member here. And also new member to handgun world. I shoot shotgun for about 6 years and bow and arrow for 3. Just got my CCL and purchased S&W SD9VE. I was reading thru manual and learning how to take it apart and clean it and also how to use it safely. And here is my problem. It's either my fingers or the design of takedown itself that bothers me. I just can't hold it down with my fingers. It's always slipping under them. It feels like they are being pressed inside the frame once I press on them or the spring that pushing them up is too strong. Is it possible to take it out so I can machine one for myself the way I would like it? (I own small cnc machine shop)

theres a replacement kit that replaces the takedown bar with a glock one that is slightly longer and makes a huge difference as far as ease of use i believe its from galloway and costs about $10

Best thing you can do for it , Ebay has them also

Just watch that little flat spring when you change it out that it doesn't take off on you (don't ask me how I know) . Just keep some pressure on it when you slide the old one out and the new one in ...pretty easy actually

Thanks guys. Will check it out. Might be not worth it to machined one if they are on sale already.

I was joking around there. Someone does make one
already--CRS who--and they probably charge $30 for it.

I was thinking maybe make one out of aluminum. I found the one you guys told me about and it's $12 but it's plastic. Will it change a lot if I add the aluminum piece? Will the additional weight make any difference on gun recoil?

Aluminum is not strong enough for the job and I would be surprised that you found one made of plastic.

I think the best option is one made by NDZ precision. Only .9mm longer but works like a charm.

In the interim just use a washcloth on the ends of the bar.
