Question SW40VE Good or Bad

I know nothing about the Sigma line but may have a chance to pick up an excellent condition SW40VE this weekend. What's the going rate and are their any pros or cons to the the gun? According to my SCS&W #4 it's a "Value Enhanced" model with various redesigns. Don't need it but I've got a bunch of .40 S&W ammo laying around and thought for the right price it might make a good truck gun at worst. TIA

Well Richard, here's the real deal on the SWs, based on using the Sigmas for trainers and loaners fro nearly two decades. They are rugged and reliable in stock form, but do not lend themselves to much modification. I call their triggers "algebra problem" because they are long and hard. Perfect for training because it will show any yanking or flinching. Learn to shoot a Sigma and you can shoot anything.
But either love it as is or don't buy it.

Thank you for the response. I'll check it out this morning. It's actually an estate auction and this is about the only non pot metal pistol out of the few being offered. Based on past Gunbroker listings these don't bring much so if I can snag it for cheap I can learn to like it.

My last "duty weapon was a SW40c.
Still have it. Never failed and serves still as a defense weapon.
You like firepower?
This one has it in spades!

It ended up being an SD40VE with one 15rd mag. Pretty nice shape. I let it go at $250 and it ended up selling for $300.

Good call. I just picked up a brand new SD40VE w/ 2 mags for $272.99 shipped to my FFL from GrabAGun. $300 for a used one w/ 1 mag isn't that great of a deal...so good call on passing.

It's hard at auctions, because you can get caught up in the moment and wide up paying more than what the item is truly worth.

You never know about auctions. You might get a killer deal or someone might actually pay more than retail for a gun just because they got caught up in the bidding!
You did right dropping out at the $250 mark but, I think you should seriously consider getting one eventually.
I love my SD40VE as well as my "Academy Special" SD40.
You just cannot beat them for value !
