Default Customization People: SDVE Frame Port-Holes

Hi guys,

I came across this persons gun and wanted to see if anyone else has seen this on another gun before...the person drilled in these "port holes" on the sides of the front of the frame. I like the look of the ports (not the spike guide rod - not my thing) it making the gun a little more aggressive/tactical looking

Not sure if i want to go through with it and want to see what you all may think and tips on maybe how to go about it with lining up the drilled port holes in a straight line (knowing it would certainly void my warranty, but i have already started polishing my barrel and the feed ramp so not sure if this would already be voiding it anyway)?

Yeah, drilling holes in the frame is a sure deal your warranty will be voided. Polishing the barrel and feed ramp should not be a problem. As long as it doesn't effect the guns function, I see nothing wrong with it.

Polishing the barrel and the feed ramp is good to go with S&W warranty/repair.

I was also thinking, maybe instead of drilling "port holes" onto sides, instead use a punch and hammer or just partially drilling by just making contact on the frame and not penetrate completely through to create circular shaped indentures.

This falls into the category of "its your gun, do what you want with it - as long as you are safe." This looks pretty safe, in that the "dust cover" on the front of the frame doesn't carry any load or have much of a function. But I would not have drilled that last hole just above where the accessory rail ends. That is close to a place where the frame has a thicker part that bolsters the front rail.

Otherwise, this is all about appearance, and it is your gun!

(I've read some cautions about not having anything aggressive or belligerent in manner on a gun, e.g., "eat death" or "kill them all" slogans or artwork -- in that it could be construed as indicating a reckless or dangerous frame of mind on the part of the owner, should the owner and gun end up in court. Does that pointy recoil rod meet that criteria? Something to think about).

Yea i think that's a good observation.

Also, I think appearance wise it would look better with 4 holes/markings instead of 5.

That forward section of the frame with the rail is not strong or rigid enough as it is. I'm not going to drill holes in it to make it even less strong and rigid.

Well, to each his own...and I realize that other cosmetic alterations may only serve a cosmetic purpose, and no functional one, but this seems silly and unnecessary to me. I mean, TO ME, it doesn't even look good, and I can't see where it serves any functional purpose either. I guess if the only purpose is because the owner likes it, then it's sufficient. As others have noted, it's your gun...but should you decide to try to sell or trade it in the future, you may have really lowered the value.

Whoa...that looks terrible...the holes look out of place and distasteful. Literally looks like a 2 minute hack job. Nothing custom about that pistol.

This is of course my personal opinion
