SD40VE SS Guide Rod Replacement
Some time ago I saw several posts were members experienced issues with their SD's after replacing the stock guide rod with a SS replacement. Does anyone know if this issue is still a problem or if S&W has address the "TAB" breakage issue??
Thanks,

S&w won't address the issue because it's non existent with a stick RSA.
From what I have seen, Galloway precision has changed their design. I wouldn't risk it, I don't think you get much of a performance increase. But if you want to do it, go for it. But I would call Galloway and ask them about it.

I agree. For S&W, it is a non-problem, since it doesn't occur with their OEM plastic guide rod.
I'm back to the OEM guide rod, and staying away from the stainless after-market models.

Even though nothing happened to my (4) fantastic plastic firearms with the SS GRA in them, I would rather be safe than sorry!

Why do you want to change it? Stick with the OEM guide rod assembly.

Thanks guys. That answers my question. The SS Guide Rod isn't considered for anything like improving accuracy, more like cosmetic.

Some only buy the SS GRA for looks, as you stated. I bought (3) of them; (1) each for my SW40VE & SD40VE. (1) for my SD9VE, which I tried that (1) in both of the 9mm's. I didn't see any change in shooting them. But, in the 40's, they actually helped keep muzzle rise down, somewhat. It was not worth the risk of damaging my guns, so I went back with the factory GRA's.
While I'm here commenting, I highly recommend that you buy and install a wide take down bar. I have the Glock version installed in all (5) of my fantastic plastic guns. Tip; a Glock take down bar will work in all of the SD & SW models. And, they are cheaper in price.
