Default SD40ve Range Session this AM.

Final range TP for my trusty SD40 this morning! I have new traction grips applied to the handle and can't wait to test them!

The gun has over 2,500 rds put through it and absolutely NO issues, but I have decided to give the gun to my younger son. Mainly because I am about to purchase a new Shield .45 and he likes the SD40 quite well. I have done very little to upgrade the SD, as it is very good as is. Put on an OEM M&P rear sight, (Steel instead of plastic), Traction grips on the handle sides, and a grip plug. The gun still looks new!
I think S&W scored a big hit with the introduction of the SD series.

Great job and a great dad!

Post a report on the new shield when you get it.

I think the SD40VE will serve him well.
I like to shoot Winchester steel cased FMJ or Blazer aluminum through my SD9VEs because the marks from the cases blend in with the color of the slide unlike shooting that stuff in say an M&P9.

I agree with your upgrades of grips and sights, none of my SD series have their factory plastic rear sight.
I don't mind the trigger myself, but if S&W were to make it lighter/shorter then I think they would sell even better.

I own lots of other handguns from S&W, Beretta, SIG, etc. but find myself relying on a handful of SD9 variants for home defense and concealed carry. I think it's because of the light weight, heavier trigger, and relative thinness compared to my other guns. The SD9 is also surprisingly accurate and very reliable.

I have managed to not buy another SD9 recently but with the rebate and new color choices it is tempting.....

Funny you posted this today because I took my new sd9ve for its FIRST shooting session this morning! I am seriously impressed. I put about 200 rounds of the cheapest 9mm you can buy and then almost 50 rounds of a mix of gold dot and HST. Absolutely flawless. I have several glocks and like them but I think I shoot this thing better,it just fits my hand and points naturally. I would recommend one of these to anyone. I told my buddy I'm thinking of selling my glock 19 and getting another one of these. He told me nobody sells a 19, I guess he's right but I think I'll still save up for another of these and I don't even need one!

I sure agree with everyone's assessment of theses SD series pistols. I am glad I decided to take a chance on one...and now 2.

Thumbs up

The SD/SDVE series of guns might not ever get as big of a following as Glock, but they sure will make a dent in the handgun world. Just sit back and watch, as more people get a hold of one of these guns. The madness will spread like wildfire!
S&W has a winner here. When you have a winner, you get noticed. S&W has only begun to scratch the surface with these firearms.

That's exactly what I've been saying.

Great minds think alike.

After buying my SD9VE, two other family members have jumped on the band wagon. After rebate price these guns are at the price of a SCCY or Kel Tec. Now tell me that is not a great deal for a S&W firearm!
