Default SD9VE issues?

I just got back out my SD9VE after setting in the gun case for a spell, when I first purchased back about 3-4 yrs ago I think, it was about the time S&W just released this model of pistol.
Well I took it to the range today, shot about 200 rounds out of it & couldn't figure out why when shooting at my steel plate using the same POA would hit the steel 6-8 times the suddenly the rounds would start to hit low. Then would start to hit everywhere else except where I was aiming.
But would load another mag & would shoot again 6-8 rounds then the same thing started over again. So I had another fellow range member shoot it also, he put about 100 rounds through it, ended up with the same results. Then another member tried it, same results.
Each & every one that shot this pistol today stated that there is something wrong with either the barrel or the recoil spring. The pistol also had really weak ejection issues. Had a few FTF issues also, I was like great I have to once again send this pistol back to S&W for repairs.
The first time I returned it, I had all kinds of problems. FTF, FTE, stove pipes, double feeds etc, you name it I had it. I even then had others shoot it & they had the some issues.
So just wondering if anyone else has had any issues with there SD9VE pistol. I hope that this time they either completely replace all the parts in the pistol or just issue me a new one.

I have about 2500+ rounds through mine also bought it about 3 years ago. The only failures I've had were because of making up a load. Really for the price and the reliability I really like my SD9VE. It's a sweet shooter and dependable for me. Enough so that it's my primary carry piece. Just my 2 cents worth.

I own a few of them and never had a single issue.

Your issues are very odd as they are so inconsistent. I would call for a label and send it back in. You could have a lemon on your hands. Even the best companies in the world put out a lemon from time to time.

I'm not judging by any means because I can't even got a target consistently at 21 ft.

But it sounds like your grip or POA is breaking down. The gun wouldn't cause an issue like that, only user input.

Definitely call S&W and send it back.

A pistol that scatters rounds inconsistently around the point of aim, and also has problems with functioning (FTE, FTF, stovepiping, etc.) bespeaks a serious problem with the barrel or the mating of the barrel to the slide. If you were trying to fix this on your own, the first thing to be done would be to replace the recoil spring assembly while examining the barrel for unusual wear on the hood or areas where it contacts the slide. Then maybe just look at the barrel to see if it is bent, warped, has a bulge, has a bad crown, etc.

All the best in hoping for S&W to fix it. Please post the outcome of this problem here, and tell the Forum what S&W says is the problem -- if they tell you in their repair order (sometimes they don't explain what they did, they just send it back).

Exclamation

I own (5) of the fantastic plastic guns (SW9VE, SW40VE, SD9VE, SD40VE, SD9) and have never had a problem with any of them.
It's very obvious you have a LEMON!

This. I have seen this at least twice and a bad barrel caused a whole lotta grief. Ship it back on their dime.

Why would a bad barrel do this?..... 6-8 shots on target >>>>then the rounds begin to scatter? Load new mag and same problem would be very strange.

hello, I am new here, and I just got an sw9ve a month ago. I like this little gun. I have the rail for it, but am looking for a laser sight for it, but money is a problem. do they sell a cheaper sight?

this is the first semi-ato I have had. I had an old S&W 38 my dad gave me years ago that he carried when he was a police officer, sadly the barrel is shot out. now mom has it in the shadow box with his flag and medals.

Welcome to the Forum. (OP - Sorry for the thread drift in the next couple of posts).

The SW9VE is a very solid pistol, and a great value for the money. This forum has lots of info on the SW9VE, SW40VE, SD-9, SD-40, SD9VE, SD40VE, etc.

For an inexpensive laser light, you can find them on Ebay and elsewhere. I have a cheap one for my SD9 made by "NC Star" that took some time adjusting to align with the barrel/sights but works fine. I think some of them will clamp onto the proprietary rail on the SW9VE, but I'm not sure! Maybe somebody on the Forum has a recommendation on a model that will work. Most pistols now use the Picatinny Rail system, which is different from the rail on the SW9VE.

You can get an adapter so that your SW9VE will accept any laser that fits on a Picatinny Rail. See LASERLYTE SUB-MINI RAIL ADAPTER S&W SIGMA SW40VE - LLADPSIGM140

A high quality laser light can be bought from Crimson Trace and costs a lot more, but may be worth it if you decide this is something you plan to use as part of your self-defense set-up. Crimson Trace makes a model (MSRP $189.00) specifically for the SW9VE, the CMTLG406 CRIMSON TRACE LASERGUARD S&W SIGMA - CMTLG406

The old S&W police revolver -- a Model 10? -- makes a great momento. In their day, they were state of the art.

I have the rail adapter, but makes the gun look bulky I think and hard to find a holster for it.

I have never used a laser sight, does it have good advanteges or not really.

Individual taste, I guess. I played around with a cheap laser to see how they work but do not carry or expect to use one. Some people swear by them.

Well it has went back to S&W, this will be the 2nd time it has went back for repairs. I did ask if since this was the 2nd time it has went in for repairs if possible the pistol just be replaced with a new one. Not sure if this will happen but would be nice.
Like I stated before I had 4 other shooters at my range that day shoot this pistol with the same results. 6-8 rounds on target then the rest of mag scattering everywhere or just hitting low. When we compared mine to the other SD9VE that was down there that day the barrel crowns & diameter of the barrel looked different.
Thanks for all the replies, I will keep everyone posted on this pistol when I get it back. I am planning on shooting 200+ rounds through this pistol when I get it back. Hopefully everything will be corrected & it will shoot correctly.

I also would like to add, I shot my friends Ruger SR9 that day, it has a 17+1 in the mag. I got 15 of the 17 on my steel target at 15+ yards, did this on both mags, so don't think it was my shooting causing the issues with the SD9VE.

well got yelled at today by my local gunsmith, I brought in my sw9ve asking about doing a trigger job on it, and he was not happy with me. He told me I had way to much oil on my gun. I thought you could not use to much, I guess I was wrong.

Light drops of oil and a dab of grease on the rails is enough.
Use too much and you will attract more dirt and debris than you thought possible.
Google lubricating a SD9ve or SW9.

I have the SD9 for about 4 years now and have just about 3100 rounds down range. It has shot flawless each time I've fired it and the good thing about it is that the shooting is getting better and better which makes it more fun. I am unsure if it is the trigger getting lighter or if I am simply getting better with the trigger or both however my SD9 shoots well each time.

I use very very little oil on the pistol. I do oil the barrel with a oily cloth so I have no excess and the rails are also just wiped down with an oily rag. So far, with around 3100 rounds - standard ammo - there is little to no wear on the pistol parts and like I've said above, it shoot flawless so I am guessing that the sparing application of oil is just about correct. You really do not need to be apply plenty oil in your pistol. What I think is more important than oiling is to clean the pistol even if only with a dry rag or q-tips to wipe off excess residue.

Yeah, when I lube my striker fire pistols I never use a liquid lube, I usually use Tetra grease or Red lithium #2 HP grease. It stays where I put it & a little bit on both goes a long way.
I also make sure that the striker chamber is clean & dry. Only use the grease on spots that look like extra wear is happening.

For those of old enough to remember the Brylcreem hair product, "a little dab will do ya"!

I use whatever oil I have at the time, but very little.

Default Slide lock problems

I am new to guns. I just purchased my first pistol, SD9ve. Took it to the range today and after about 80 rounds the slide stop locking back once the mag was empty. I'm not sure why this happens. I've watched many reviews about this gun and all were positive. The ammo used was Winchester 115 grain fmj. Any suggestions?

Clean and lube the gun per manual instructions.
Make sure when you shoot not to ride the slide catch.
Hold the gun so it does not flop around loose when you shoot.
One or more of these usually solves the problem.

Thumb on slide lock will do it. The living legend, Jerry Miculek, says he shoots his semi-autos with his right thumb almost straight up and out, so as not to bump the lock under fire.

It may also be a magazine. Number your mags so you can keep track of which ones develop issues as time goes on.

The slide lock engages as it should on both of my SD9EV's. But I have examined both and the slide stop engages the slide by a slim margin. At that point, I can manually raise the slide stop further into the slide stop notch. This is due to either the mag follower being a little shallow at the engagement point, or the slide stop lever being a little too high off the follower. When I have a little more free time on my hands, I may try using a little JB Weld to build up the bottom of the slide stop area where it is engaged by the mag follower to see if that helps.

My SD9VE is my house gun. I have a Crimson Trace universal rail laser on it. If I carried it, probably would take it off. Myy 442 has the LG405 grips on it. You just missed a great deal on Crimson lasers. I bought 2 more universal rails, paid $95.00 each with a $50.00 rebate on both. Total cost $45.00 each.

Only thing I could think is the barrel heating up, but 8 rounds shouldn't change point of impact like that.

I also only use a little grease on my pistols. Oil doesn't stay where you put it.
