Thumbs up SD/SDVE Grip Frame Insert

If you want to install a grip frame insert in the grip, you will need to order PEARCE GRIP GLOCK MODEL 42 &43 GRIP FRAME INSERT. No company makes one for the SD/SDVE series of handguns.
But, in order for it to fit correctly, you must file off the little lip on the insert. It will then fit perfect.
I ordered mine from Ebay, but, Amazon has them as well.

The image does not look like the plug fits "Perfect". Or am I missing something?

If you can find another one out there that fits better, let me know. Until then, it fits "Perfect!"

Does it fill the void completely, or is there a gap on each side of the plug?

Look at the picture and determine what you see. It is what it is. If you can do better, than by all means, post it! Until then, this is "PERFECT" for me!

There is nothing wrong with the plug you have in your SD! I was just curious about it's fit in the image you posted.I am also aware of the fact no one makes a handle plug for the SD. If they did, I would have bought one!
Until we find a plug dedicated to the SD, The one you have in your Post, should do nicely!

So I ordered one and put it in the grip ,Is it a perfect fit ?No It's a little tight So like Disabled 1 said you do have to do a little filing ,I placed sandpaper on the table in different grits until I got it right,It is a pretty good fit and should keep the cavity free of any debris.Slight space on either side, but will do the job.

Thank you Mr. Bee.
Now, do I buy (4) more for the other fantastic platic guns, or, do I wait for a company to make one specific to the SD/SDVE series?

Four more would be a perfect match!!!
I think waiting for another Mfr. to issue a product that was designed to fit the SD series, would be a long wait!

For those that can stand the hole, here is a solution. It really doesn't bother me and my other SD9s are open. This was really just a test to see if it holds up.

Yes, I too like your style. Can you please tell me where you bought that grip insert? I have (5) fantastic plastic guns that need one.

I doubt it was something he bought ready to install. More than likely he fabricated it!

The filler is RTV silicone. The key is to fill the hole and build a large mound outside the hole. After it dries, take a razor blade and slice off the excess. I used Permatex brand on this one but there are others I've used in the past and I think they were a little better.

Marty,
It looks like your SD9VE needs some traction grips. PM me your address and I'll send you some of my homemade ones.

BTJHP, have you ever felt the grips on the newer SD9 & SD40? Talk about major stippling! Maybe, instead of traction grips, you need a new SD9 or SD40.

Yes, along with my older SD9s I have new ones as well (Jan 2016 is when it changed I think). The texture that was changed was only on the front and back straps and not on the sides which is where I have my traction grips. Somewhere in another thread I posted a picture of 3 SD9s showing grip texture. We will see what Marty thinks of the tractions grips hopefully sometime this week.

Marty,
Did you get your SD9VE sometime around late 2013/early 2014? It looks like one of mine made during that time frame.

Jake: Yes, I bought it from a friend of mine that has a FFL. It is an, SD40VE bought on 09/18/2013. Paid $323. OTD. It has been a very good piece, w/over 2,500 rds.& No Issues! The only enhancements to it are the traction grips, frame plug and an M&P OEM rear sight! I will be giving it to my son later this year after I get my Shield 45!

Midway USA sells the frame plugs for these pistols periodically. I ordered one last week, and it was basically a piece-of-styrene plastic junk, that does-not, I repeat does-not fit a S&W 40 VE. You wind-up with piece of plastic that hangs-down beyond the inserted magazine, at least 3/8 of an inch. I almost wrecked my gun, trying to get it back-out! Take warning, do not buy one of these frame plugs.
