Default Sd40ve ammo? Feed ramp issue?

Hello and I just purchased an Sd40ve. I'm using the federal aluminum right now because I had some extra laying around and noticed that I'm having feeding issues?? I have to cock the gun hard for the bullet not to get stuck. Is it the ammo I'm using or do I need to polish my feed ramp? Can anoyone help me out?

Try some good brass case ammo. Have someone else shoot it.
(I have to cock the gun hard for the bullet not to get stuck) I have no idea what you mean by this.

Do you mean it won't feed the bullet all the way into the chamber?

The classic feed ramp "issue" used to be mostly about blunt hollow-points piling up on the ramp. That problem is largely gone, what with smoother feed ramps that are angled exactly right and better designed bullets. And a fully jacketed bullet (e.g., not a hollow point) is smoother and has more "pointiness" to it, and is much less likely to "catch" on a feed ramp -- and I presume your aluminum ammo (e.g., range ammo) is jacketed, not hollow-point. So the problem may not be related to the feed ramp, particularly not if you can see that the feed ramp is smooth and clean.

Are you letting the slide go from all the way to the rear? Is it coming forward with full force? These pistols generally feed all sorts of ammo as long as the slide is coming forward with full force.

But if the ammo won't feed into the chamber when the slide is released from all the way to the rear, then my next step would be to ensure the gun is thoroughly clean and oiled. If the action is dirty, or not oiled, it could slow down the slide and/or prevent it from pushing the round all the way forward into the chamber. And don't forget, a new pistol really needs to be cleaned, including inside the barrel and all of the moving parts, as they are often gummed up with oil from being packed in preservative oil at the factory.

If the slide is coming forward with full force and the bullet won't go into the chamber, I'd try different ammo next -- that Federal aluminum may be from a batch that is out of diametric spec, or the aluminum might be oxidized to the extent it caused friction within the chamber.

It is still a bit of a mystery to me what is happening, but Good Luck with it -- let us know how you get it running correctly.

Another thought the magazine lips may be sharp and since aluminum is soft the rounds are dragging on feeding slowing the slide down.
