Side by side taste test
Uh-oh. I did not expect such a profound difference. Note SD9VE not SD9. At the end my wife had ditched my Smith for the rental Glock. She bested me for the first time with the G19.

I am thinking I might have to give the Apex trigger some serious thought. When I dry fire I don't see movement in my sights so this was not expected. Why would I flinch with one and not the other? That makes me think trigger. Thoughts?

I would at the least suggest some more trigger time with this gun. The long heavier pull does take some getting used to. See my photo attached...3 mags (48 rounds) from my second trip to the range.

That is a nice group.
I know I need more practice. The funny thing is that I don't feel that the trigger is heavy. It is obviously affecting my shot.
On the way out of the range my wife says to me, "maybe we just get you the Glock." And yet I am a cheap ***, I don't want this to be an expensive lesson. Yes I can invest more money and time getting accustomed and hopefully more proficient with this firearm, but at the rate that I can get to the range (about once a month) how long will that take? (I do dry fire, I thought I had gotten much better with the trigger. ) Oddly enough I don't necessarily want the Glock which is why I am thinking Apex. Now if I go that route and still shoot other pistols better, then I will really be unhappy.
I am going to sleep on this for a while trying to decide if I leave it stock, do the trigger, do the springs or both.

Just stay away from shooting Sigs and CZs. We don't want your wife talking you into spending that kind of money on a handgun when she sees how well you can shoot them.

The range officer showed us a PX4 on the way out. She was really impressed by the trigger. So yes, I will keep her away from the hammer fired. Although the Beretta and FN's can be had in or near the Glock price point. At the moment I prefer the simplicity of striker fire.

Okay, as you are one of the biggest SD9VE/SD9 advocates why just the springs. I figured you would have some useful advice. Thanks in advance.

Something strange with those patterns on the target. Lots of two hole groups. Were you shooting two shots and resting?

I noticed the same thing! No, I was shooting at a 2-4 second interval.
I tried something different that day. I wear progressive lenses and don't like tilting my head back to focus on the front sight. So that time I used a pair of glasses that has only my near-mid prescription. It worked great for my focus. The target was blurred though. I could see my point of aim was the center of the red circle, but at 25' I could not see the holes in the paper. I just tried to get back to the center of the circle for each shot.

With me and the spring kit only, I find that you are not trying to anticipate when the trigger will break. It's like it makes it happen more naturally.....in my mind this seems to be the case. YMMV.

I just shoot first, then draw a circle around the best group.
