Well sold it
I got it back shot it once, looked at it & when I did it reminded me how pissed I was when it went back for 2 times. They replaced the barrel, it shot fine but just couldn't get over the problems I had with it.
I might pick up a newer model of one, I got that one when they first came out on the market. Maybe. I would like to get one in all black but cannot find one anywhere.

My son bought me my SD9 in February 2017, when they were on sale at Academy for $329.

Seems sort of like selling your new car after the tire shop fixed your flat tire............can't trust THAT car again... it had a flat tire in the first 100 miles!

Maybe I am a technically minded type, but getting to tinker with a gun to make it work just right is very satisfying to me.

Not exactly which one, but the "Smith & Wesson SD & Sigma Pistols" section name gets you close.

This earlier post by OP is a BIG clue.
SD9VE issues?
Or maybe this one.
It's coming home

After reading the op's earlier posts about his problem. I will have to say I had the same issue. Me and my son both shot my SD9 and we both both loved it . However after around the 450 round mark , accuracy went wild! You could barely see the rifling in the barrel. Tried to clean it but it was actually worn out. I sold mine to a coworker and told him about the issue. He was gonna send it in but hasn't yet. I will probably buy another though.

M&P9 m2.0 $429 on slickguns.com i'd highly recommend.
over 500 rounds through my M&P, not one failure. Just remember, clean and lube any S&W out of the box before you even think of firing it.

It may have 1 round fired at the MFG facility, and if you don't already know, S&W packs their firearms with dirty anti corrosive grease for storage, it even states in the owners manual to clean and lube the firearm previous to firing. Failure to properly clean the firearm of the packing grease most likely will result in failure.

If I had a quarter for every time somebody said about their malfunctioning pistol, "Why should I clean it? It's BRAND NEW!"
I'd have a great big bag of quarters to smack them with....

I was just being facetious!
I totally agree; Clean and inspect, lub where needed and check out the function of the weapon! (Slide pull-back, slide lock, slide closing and going into battery, etc.) Dry fire it a few times, (not rimfire weapon) then take it to the range and put a few boxes of ammo through it. This way, you could save yourself a lot of grief and be fairly sure the gun is OK to fire!

A couple quarters for you...... Never did it on any gun. Never had a problem due to it.

That is only partly true.
Does not say ' packing grease ' , It does say preservative or oil to protect.
& it does not say anything about ' most likely resulting in a failure.
All it says you should wipe the preservative & oil off.
I have done both wipe down before first firing & as in the case of my SD9ve loaded & fired 50 rounds right out of the box. That SD9ve is over 6 years old with over 2,400 rds. without one problem.

yeah, i added that little bit in there lol, I've heard too many stories about new S&W owners having super bad luck with their guns. When asked if they cleaned it first, its always the same thing, its brand new! the last guy to post in his thread was wondering why he was having problems, said, "the gun still has the factory oil in it." well that's where you went wrong kiddo.

This is like the old wives tails. From back when guns were all steel , mass produced & packed away in cosmoline. The last time I saw anything like this is a Taurus pt1911 I got on sale a few years ago it was packed in something & even warped in a oil paper, it was a real pain to clean.
I am by no means trying to discourage people from inspecting, cleaning, becoming familiar with their new firearm before they shoot it.
I think the only thing that firing it right out of the box does is make the first cleaning harder.
If you buy a gun at a shop that has a range & you , like I , want to shoot it right then a good wipe down is all that you need.

yeah my M&P came wrapped in paper, it took over 20 cottons patches and de-greaser to clean the rifling, mine was F-ing dirty out of the box. The way mine came, i'm glad i didn't fire anything before cleaning it. i've seen public bathrooms cleaner than this factory new M&P
