Default New guy with SD9VE

Hello all, I'm new to the forum but am a member of several gun forums as "Gordon11" so my handle may sound familiar to some. I recently purchased a SD9VE. I often see them referred to as "beginner" or "budget" gun but I'm not a beginner and budget wasn't my sole motivation in choosing this gun. I really like the way it feels in the hand. I know there's a lot of talk about the trigger and a lot of folks drop in an Apex but I actually like the trigger. I'm actually one of those guys that whines about triggers being a little heavy but I must've lucked up with this one. I don't have a trigger scale but if I had to guess, I'd place it at somewhere around 7-ish pounds. It's like a tad heavier Glock-ish pull that breaks like an M&P. Hopefully I can get to the range soon and post a range report. Thanks for having me in the forum. I'm glad to be here.

Mine was the same way. Factory trigger was a bit gritty, but not heavy at all. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.

I have had mine over 4 years and haven't altered a thing as it performs as advertised.

I wasn't looking for a budget or beginner gun when I bought mine either. I just liked it.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and responses. I'm itching to get to the range with it. Looks like it's going to be a week before I get some free time during range hours. I will be sure to report back on how it does.

Congrats on the SD9VE. It's a gun I want for no reason other than I want one. I almost picked up a used one from my dealer for $200 a couple of months ago. It was in good condition but I just didn't have the extra cash at the time. There was the credit option but I try not to buy anything firearm related unless it's in the budget. That being said I am still kicking myself for not buying. There will be another at some point so.......

Enjoy it!

Default Update and range report

FINALLY got to the range. Fired 132 rounds, a mixture of 124gr Federal +P HST, Blazer Brass, and Fiocchi 115gr. I found the gun pleasant to shoot. As I suspected, the trigger was fine and contributed to the shootability. At 7 yards, most rounds were within the 10 ring and those that weren't were shooter error. I knew as the gun fired whether I'd done my job and those shots that were off weren't a surprise at all. As for reliability.... I had one extraction failure in the first magazine, resulting in a double-feed. It was flawless thereafter until about 120 rounds in, when I experienced another extraction failure. Both of these failures occurred about midway through a magazine. I'm not quite panicked over the failures and will make another trip to the range this week to finish break-in but I would be concerned if I experienced a few more failures. The gun had a bit more snap than I expected for its size and I wouldn't rule out some limpwristing since it was hot and my hands were a tad sweaty. I also wonder if some of the grease from the slide rails may have made it onto the extractor, giving some unneeded lube to the cartridge rims. We'll just have to see how it goes. I'll report back.
