Shot an SD9 today....
It was ALMOST as nice as shooting an M&P or a 3rd gen, but not quite. Definitely a good, economical gun for defense. It felt a little top heavy (expected) and the trigger wasn't quite as smooth (also expected) but it shot just fine.

It's reliable, it's good enough, it has a military style trigger pull.
Geoff
Who notes it's a good pistol for the price around $290 on sale at your local Academy Sports Big Box Store.

I've had my eye out for a deal on one of these, for a while now, but oddly, the used prices never seem to be correspondingly/proportionately lower than the new prices.

Was it the all black SD9, or the SS silver slide SD9VE?
Either way, it's an excellent gun and you NEED one!
Below is a pic of my SD9.

Like others here, I have nicer pistols but they are for range fun. The SD9VE is for nightstand duty as I feel comfy with the long, deliberate trigger pull.
Outstanding value.

Good point about that trigger pull. Another good reason to use a "budget" pistol like these as your EDC or bedside/HD gun, is that it won't be as much of a heartbreaker to have the authorities confiscate it indefinitely, should you ever have to use it in self defense.

I never thought of my SD9ve as a budget pistol, just knew I got a great price on a great pistol. & if anything happened to it I would get another one I do like the SD.

I didn't mean the term "budget" in any critical, pejorative sense, but the fact is, these are budget pistols, that are specifically intended to cut into the market share of their competitor's similar type pistols (Glox, Rugers, Walthers, HK's, Springfields, etc) by building them as inexpensively as possible and pricing them significantly lower (the very definition of the term "budget").
That isn't to say that they don't function well or that they're junk.
I like this pistol, in fact, as we speak, I'm waiting on a return message about one on one of my local classifed sites !

NO problem , I think of my SD9ve like a Chevy it is not as fancy as a Cadillac but it is made by GM & gets me to work every day just the same.

If S&W made a SD45 I would be all over that. After all it's the bullet, weight and placement that matters. As a teacher in the academy used to tell us " In a fight , front sight". I hold that to be true regardless of caliber. Placement, placement, placement.

Fullmag.......... the "Performance Center SD9 (Stocking Dealer 9)...... is;
a true semi custom built auto using a stainless steel 6906 frame (only ones made) w/ a 4.25 inch stainless barrel and slide with the S&W PC bushing........in 1994 the PC shop built a total of 500 "SD" guns in...... 9mm (179) ,40S&W (+200) and .356 S&W (what ever was left /less than 100 IIRC)
.................... nothing like the S&W SD9 this thread is about..........

You've got that right! An SD45 would be perfect! I would want mine all black.

I shoot my 9mm Sigma about as nice as my other 9mm's, too - among which are a CZ 75 and a vintage Browning HP.
I really like shooting it.
