Had my SD9VE for close to 1.5 years now. I've only got 1700 rounds through it so far and never an issue. I dig these guns and have since they came out in 2012.
So what is my complaint?
It's the lack of maintenance parts in the real world. Things like strikers, trigger bars and barrels, etc... I am sure it will be a while before I have to replace any of these parts, but I would love to have the option to do so when I feel like it without having to contact to factory for it.

Don't anyone have a stroke on me, I'm not trying to start a Glock flamewar here on the S&W forum, but the OP illustrates one of the best arguments for getting a Glock over many of the competitors: cheap,readily available parts, upgrades, and especially.....magazines!!
That being said, I've been highly impressed, over many years, with the help I've gotten on piddly little stuff direct from S&W's customer service.

BTW, my gripe with the SD's is that everyone wants to sell used ones for about the same price you can find them brand new !! What's up with that? I've been on the lookout for a Armslist deal on one for a while now, but there's never a decent deal on them (well, unless it's a .40 ).

"Many" and "in a pinch" are not exactly the same as "this part broke while at the range. I'll just go to *********.com and order a few extra of these correctly designed for my gun parts and get them overnighted to me."

smith pays glock for every sd9/40 sold, why not use the after market glocks got, smith is paying for it.

If you read the book GLOCK, they sued because the first Sigma LOOKED too much like a Glock. They had to redesign the appearance. Also the internals are different, outside of the "make it work" recoil assembly and take down bar.

I belive the sights also work, but really what else needs to be changed? change the take down bar for easyier take down, recoil spring good to keep on hand,sights if you want.

Right, but again, no factory recoil springs or any other internals for the gun specifically. These are Glock bits that "in a pinch" can work. Sorry, but it is a fact. And is starting to wear my affection thin.

Sigma parts are the same in the SD for many items: Magazines, recoil springs, and trigger return springs I have used, don't recall what others match offhand. The SD sight slots are the same as the M&P.
I don't know any one place all the SD parts are listed online.
Most aftermarkets know what their products fit.

This is my biggest beef with the SD; it doesn't get the recognition it DESERVES! IMHO. it is just as good, or BETTER than a G19! The Glock fanboys think that the G19 (or any Glock) is the best thing since the invention of the wheel. Guess what, IT'S NOT! The SD series is low priced to where you can ALMOST buy (2) SD series guns for the price of (1) Glock! And, it's really starting to get a "little bit" of recognition that I stated earlier it wasn't getting. I mean, look at this forum; there is a new member here almost every day, with a new SD series gun! And to think, what about the people out there that are buying SD series guns that don't know about the SD FORUMS? The SD series gun WILL eat into Glocks presence, slowly but surely!

That's all well and good, but none of this even comes close to refuting my points.
As for your comment that "the SD series WILL eat into Glocks presence", that's not NOW, that's well into the future, plus, that's a guarantee that you simply can't make.
Sure, it very well might, but it could just as easily stay on the backburner, while Glocks remain king-of-the-hill (which is actually much more likely. Or do you seriously envision major police and military organizations flocking to the SD9 ? I don't).
I don't have a dog in this fight, and I truly don't care either way, but the fact remains that, right now, and for the foreseeable future, parts,upgrades,accessories, and magazines are generally cheaper and more common for Glocks, which IS a significant factor in their favor, versus stuff like the SD series. That isn't a criticism of the pistol, it's just a fact.
And again, I actually like the SD, and as I recently posted in another thread, I was just trying to finagle a deal on one on one of my local classified sites, but as I mentioned, the guy wants too close to what a new one runs. So, oh well .

All that you typed up there ^^^^^ is all fine and good. The only point I was trying to get across was that the SD series gun DOES NOT get the recognition it deserves.

Agree with both !!! I do think (at least in my case) that the SD is more accurate, out of the box, than a G-19 !!! Still wish I HAD a G-19, BTW ! I like 'em both !!!

You want to buy parts? SD has a great warranty so send it in and let S&W warranty so let them do the work if it malfunctions.

The only after market part I would consisted putting on my SD9ve is a grip sleeve.

I didn't buy my SD9ve 6 years ago because I thought it was better than the G 19. I got the SD9ve because it was a made in the USA S&W, it was $200 cheeper than the G 19 & at that gun show the folks at the Glock tables were AH's because I asked a few questions.

The only reason Glock has such a following for gun parts is everyone is forgetting about the Glock being in military or police forces who are required to have them.

No US gun company can compete what Glock is marketing upon these organizations. Glock will undercut each and every time just to keep their guns out there, which means those organizations must have parts for repairs available to their armorers, so they flood the market with accessories, parts and backup.

Glock is today's version of owning a 1911 model of gun. Lots of parts that fit from one to another no matter the year(if it's made to specs). Military and police usage during this time of gotta have a 45 "to stop it in its tracks" thinking. Bullet penetration also played a role in changes of calibers while manufacturers didn't have that caliber in their lineup and Glock stepped in and the rest is, we've got you by the short hairs.

So while all US manufacturers now have the calibers needed/wanted, they don't have the pricing or model styles that these departments are willing to pay for, or enough manufacturing hands to build and back up the products. It's a catch 22 situation and Glock filled the need everyone had to have.

If you call Smith and talk to a human they'll send you any non-FFL part you need for the gun. It is NOT nor will it ever have the aftermarket trinkets available for it that Glock's do. It wasn't designed & marketed for that purpose. It was totally created for a whole lot of folks who did not want an over- priced plastic pistol for self defense needs. For that purpose the SD line is a great buy. If you want plastic that has a ton of aftermarket trinkets to choose from Glock is the king of the hill.
