Default SD40 VE and FTE

Just curious if anyone has had FTE's using Blazer aluminum case ammo. I shot up a box of 180-gr FMJ and had two FTE's out of the 50 rounds.

I've read a lot that 180gr can damage polymer frames. I've shot 50 rounds of them and never had a problem except making it dirtier than usual. In those same articles I have read that the 180s can fte because of to much pressure and not enough speed to eject

Thank you, I kind of thought it was the aluminum case issue, seeing the bulge but have also been researching the problem. I have since purchased 165-gr ammo. Back when I carried another brand all polymer on duty, I never had a single issue with 180-gr ammo when practicing.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Thumbs up

I have shot several boxes of Blazer 180 gr. aluminum ammo in my SD40VE without 1 hiccup. Try some Independence, or Federal aluminum case ammo. If you have problems with those 2 as well, then you know it's the ammo, most likely. I have tried all 3 with NO problems.

Had the same problem with the Blazer aluminum 180gr. shells. 2 FTE in a box of 50. Haven't had this problem with any other brands or my reloads. Picked up the aluminum by accident and can't return ammo to the store I got them from. I was shooting a new SD40 VE and cleaned twice before shooting the Blazer ammo and cleaned it in between the 1st and 2nd FTE.

my SD9VE will not eject aluminum. I just shot it all in my ruger, and only buy brass now.

That's rather interesting! All of my S&W fantastic plastic guns go thru aluminum ammo like PAC-MAN goes thru dots!
I can NEVER recall any FTE, FTF problems with aluminum ammo.
I dunno.......????????
