It seems to me the SDXXVE series is making a comeback in higher prices for some reason. Had seen them as low as $199 online and $249 in local gun shops and the Box stores. Now they are up to $359 again!

It also says 8.25% tax for Texas residents, and I assume about $25 dealer transfer fee...so, that's about $324 out the door. Academy has them for $299 routinely, plus 8.25% tax, for $323 out the door.
Either way, it's a good pistol for less than $325. Plus it comes with two magazines.

I bought mine 4-years ago from a FFL friend of mine. Paid $323.00 OTD. Very fine pistol.Gun is quite accurate! A loud report and snappy recoil, but quite manageable, (using 180gr. bullets) and a pleasure to shoot! After putting over 1,600 rds. through it, I gave it to my son. Got myself a Shield 45.

At the bottom line compare to the Walther Creed, I got mine for $339 over the counter in NE FL and I have seen them on sale at CDNN for under $300. Magazines tend to be inexpensive as well PPX mags are the same.
Geoff
Who notes the Creed is a pre-cocked hammer design, a bit larger and heavier than the SD9 VE.

I bought mine used w/box and spare mag for $249 a couple of years ago. Locally they've always been for sale new from between $349-$399. Online prices are always great, but the transfer, shipping and tax often brings it right back up to where you might as well buy locally.

This is why the one I just bought was about $460 OTD in a non-free and high tax state.
Compliant models (+$100 typically), 9.5% tax, and state paperwork fees for future confiscation all drive the cost way up.
Makes shopping online difficult, since the model has to be very specific to the state "roster" and many free-state retailers don't keep up on what is "compliant" in various states. Understandably. Why should they bother? Not their circus.
So it usually just makes sense for us who are behind enemy lines just to pay the extra at a local retailer. There are rarely any deals. Big Bass was advertising and selling them $10 OVER Smith and Wesson MSRP for the compliant model.
But you take what you can get these days. All new handgun sales will be shut down sooner or later in these places.

That's a great reason to load up a U-haul and move to America...there are still a few places left here.

Well, that's in the works too. But some things take a bit of time.
But on balance, I see this creep of American degradation showing up in places like Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Atlanta etc. as well. Don't mean to divert the thread. But just look at what happened to the PNW, where Oregon and Washington are now on par with CA regarding firearms oppression. Something unthinkable ten years ago.
And it is not all from Californians moving northward, but more from the monied elites anywhere and everywhere adopting the un-American agendas for the purposes of control. It's happening in Texas for sure. In five years you won't recognize the state. Starts in the big cities. Beware.

Austin, our state capital, is a bastion of liberal lunacy. Fortunately, at least for now, we have a good, solid governor. Texas as a whole remains a gun-friendly state, but it could be even better...and hopefully, it won't get worse. Not to be disagreeable, but I hope your prediction is proven wrong.

I hope I am VERY wrong, too!
But I have had a 50 yard line seat watching this slow motion train wreck of firearms oppression for 40 years.

If you do replace the take down lever on your SD9VE, be aware that the spring that holds it in place is not retained, like they are in Glocks. You will need to depress the spring to be able to remove the lever, but keep pressure on it until you put the new lever in place. If you let off the pressure, it may (will) fly out of the pistol and land in places where you won't be able to find it. Ask me how I know!

It's not that bad here... yet. But the way things are going it soon will be.
I can think of a bunch of things I'd like to do to my SD9VE, but I can't bring myself to spend $$$ upgrading a pistol I bought specifically because of its low price tag. Sure I could put on some better sights and an Apex trigger and stipple the grip, but then I'd be right where what I paid for my M&P.

Same for my way of thinking about my SD9 VE. Also I have a household member who is fairly new to firearms. A 2 lb trigger on a pistol may not be the best for someone still learning basic firearms protocols, familiarity, and handling.
The detracting features are purposeful here. Marksmanship will come after familiarity.
An M&P or XD will have its place in the future.

Thanks for the heads up! I spent a lot of time looking all over the shop for the spring and spring stop from my Buck Mark.
Vision is bad enough at this age. Don't need to torture myself!

When I bought mine the CA compliant models were +$20. Not sure about the other listed states.

I saw Slickguns had SD9VEs advertised for $200+shipping about 3 months ago. I had one so never looked where. It seems the lack of a gun confiscation scare has driven gun prices VERY low.
