Default What the heck happened to my aim with the SD9VE?

Took the SD9VE out this morning and once again....really shot like ****! Last couple of times out shooting it has been like this, low left and getting worse the more I shoot it. With my P-07 or my most recent purchase a Kahr I am still in the 9-10 circles at 15 yards. I can not figure it out, was so accurate when I first bought it!

check closely to see if the sights have loosened. Whenever you get a sudden radical change in where a gun hits, the cause can be found if you check and carefully determine what is different.

Low and Left is typically an Anticipation Push Off combined with inadequate trigger control. In your case I would suspect that you've spent too much time shooting your P-07 and Kahr and have lost your "familarity" with where the trigger on your SD actually breaks.

One obvious solution is to spend more time with your SD. Another less obvious solution is to pick up another handgun, specifically a Double Action Revolver such as a S&W model 686 or a used model 67. BTW, I favor the model 67 because the old tapered barrel versions have the finest balance in the hand of any handgun ever made. They also typically have a very smooth DA trigger.

Now as to why a Revolver can solve your problem. It's very simple, master using a Double Action trigger properly and you'll be able to shoot well with ANY type of trigger. BTW, the PROPER technique is to pull the trigger COMPLETELY through the break in one smooth complete motion. While it is easier to get better accuracy with a DA trigger by staging it (stopping just before the break) if you fall into this bad habit you wont ever master the technique of pulling the trigger on a handgun in one complete and smooth motion. So, even though it may seem impossible when you start in 2 or 3 months of steady practice you'll get to the point where you can shoot 4 inch groups at 25 feet or so with a less than 1/2 second split time. At this point you'll get more than a bit hooked on shooting revolvers and you'll just keep improving to the point where you can shoot any handgun you pick up well.

My wife loves her .32 mag revolver....I hate it. The Kahr has a very long trigger at about 5 1/2 pounds....very smooth and crisp break. CZ in S/A ....I have it fine tuned to around 3 1/2 pounds and much smoother than the Apex on my SD9VE. I checked the sights at the range...no problem. You may be right, just got away from shooting it and need to use it more.

I have gone more to smaller & smaller pistols now down to a pocket 380 that I shoot a lot because it is now my selfdefense firearm. When I do shoot my SD9ve first rounds go low left.
It is my night stand / home defense gun so I hope if I have to use it I remember to aim at the left shoulder. : )
I never shoot at 15 yards, but what I would do is move your target in to say 5 yards Then move it out as you hit where you want.

OP, after owning an SD-9 for a couple of years, I sold it. I liked the gun a lot, but I could never master the long double action trigger. At the time that I owned it, I didn't reload, and I couldn't afford to shoot the gun as often as would have been necessary to get good with it.

Your gun is a good one, no question about it, but you need to really work at it to shoot it well.

Problem solved...another Kahr (This time a CM9) just purchased taking the place of the SD9VE. Still have the SD9VE though (new house gun) as the gun shops and pawn shops best offer for trade or sell was only $125!!!!

We got a beautiful Springfield that is perfect in every way. Every way that is in shooting it. It's terrible.

I guess both of us need to start some close in work from a sandbag.

PS What REALLY bothered me is that I was able to shoot my Shield pretty well. Had to get it a new barrel and when I got the gun back I could only spray bullets all over but especially down and to the left. I've had other concerns but I THINK I've ironed that out.

I don't know, but if you start your own thread & tell why you sent it back more people will respond.
Hope you get it soon.

Micocyco is correct, you should be starting your own thread rather than hijacking the OP's (this is standard internet/forum protocol and courtesy).
That being said, if they acknowledged they've received it less than a week ago, it's way too early to be worrying about it. You can expect expect 2-6 weeks, total (though i'd think closer to 2-3 weeks than 6).

Yes cbishere, start a new thread as I'm curious about your pistol. My SD9 shot perfect for me and my oldest son. Then at about the 500-700 mark , it was all over the place. Barrel looked mirror polished on the inside and you could tell where the rifling "used" to be. Sold it with full disclosure of problem as is. However I still might buy another
