Picked up and looked at a couple of these today at a gun show. Feels good. Looks good. There's something appealing about this model. And they were priced at $269 which is cheaper than they're going for online right now. If I was looking for a 9mm in that size, G19, 2.0C, etc..., it would be hard to not look at this model for the price.

Love mine. I can highly recommend it, as can most owners here.

Mine is a 40 and I wouldn't part with it. I really like it. I've run well over 1000 rounds of different brands of cheap ammo through it without a single failure.

Welcome to this forum. The SD is a great value for the money, and compares favorably in terms of reliability and accuracy to much more expensive guns. Much discussion here on the trigger, which is somewhat long and heavy, but it boils down to this: you can master it to achieve good practical accuracy, if you practice with it. And if you want to, you can install an Apex spring kit for a relatively low price. There are discussions on this Forum about modifications you can do to this pistol, which are not a lot in number, but can make it work a little better and personalize it. Although I have other pistols, I intend to keep my SD.

I have a SD9VE with over 1500 rounds without any failures. Great gun for the money.

Got mine at our local Farm & Home a couple months ago , NIB with four mags for 319 otd.

Mine is a first issue SW40c.
The grip is smooth and the action is the same.
Glock sued S&W over this exact pistol and won.

Never had any issues with my SD9VE but after shooting my PPQ or M & P 2.0 it is hard to come back and be accurate with it . If you consistently practice with it you can get it dialed in .

I'd jump on that price. I bought my SD40 ve several years ago for $339, I think, and I even consider it a good value at that price.

I agree with S&W Rover. Like Rover I have other pistols, however, I also have a SD9VE. It is a pistol that reminds me of the classic S&W M10 revolver-everything you need and nothing you don't. The trigger is a bit heavy and has a longer travel, but it's a self defense pistol, it's not meant to be a highly tuned 1911. I've left my trigger stock and concentrated on proper grip and form. That seems to overcome the trigger. I've had no problems with reliability what so ever. IMO the SD9VE is a very good pistol that does what it's designed to do very well. And it's a great bargain to boot

I just purchased a SD9VE the other day. Have put 100 rounds through it in two days. Not a glitch. Heck, I don’t even mind the trigger. Love the 4 inch barrel for that tiny bit more velocity than the 3.5 inch Compact barrel. Take down is simple provided you don’t pull the slide back more than ¼ do 1/2 inch to release the locks. It is quickly becoming my favorite of my three guns. Now having the unenviable task of picking an IWB holster for it.

A holster for an M&P will work. The ones I have say they will work with the Sigma, M&P9, M&P40, and SD9.

You are looking at a Fobus chart, but are you looking at Fobus holsters?

Friends don't let friends buy Fobus holsters. I've only had one, lured in by the price, but it was terrible. Check Greg Ellifritz's opinion -- he is a pretty level-headed guy. See Don’t Dig the Rig #14 | Active Response Training

Greg ellifritz is certainly a respected writer and researcher on the topic of self defense. But I do not buy that Fobus Holsters are bad. Their IWB holsters are sub par IMO. But their OWB holsters are IMO good. There is a reason the Israeli Self Defense Forces and Poice use them. They work.

I own the older SW9VE and the Walther Creed in the full size class.

The Walther Creed is pre-cocked hammer fired, with a better trigger pull than the S&W M&P 9c and the Glock 19. The Creed is 4 oz heavier than the SD9VE and 3 oz heavier than the Glock 19. Some folks say the Creed feels top heavy.

There is a new Ruger Security 9 in the same class, but no street price yet.

9mmX19 Luger or 10mm FBI Load (.40 S&W), about the same. Pick the right bullet design to make it shine and perform well. I’ve seen test results where the 9mm did better than the .40 and vise versa. All because of bullet selection. The same with .45ACP.

I bought a SD9VE couple weeks ago and great pistol for the price. Had a very hard time with take down with my stiff fingers. Bought a Galloway wide body take down plate and extra mag .

I have shot this model as well as the .40 cal, No issues, no problems encountered with either. I find it to be a very good runner. The price is nice especially for the new gun owner to get introduced to the sport. I give Smith and Wesson credit for having a priceline that is affordable for the level. The only real issue I have is getting in touch with customer service but that is a seperate issue.

I have one and love it. I did an Apex tirgger spring kit in mine, because the Massachusetts triggers are terrible. It still has the factory trigger so it has a long takeup, just a lot smoother, and crisp break now. I wouldn't sell mine ever.

The Apex kit and trigger gets you about a 6# trigger pull. Still a self defense trigger pull weight. Many single action pistol trigger pulls are 4.5# or less and the government doesn’t freak out. As long as you don’t have a competition trigger on you self defense pistol, you should be fine.

I just walked into a shop on Sat and they had a mint like new in box ,ex mag ,papers 149 and another 10 per cent off . I had to take it home . I have many other Smiths but for that price I took it .

Id take a case of em for a buck thirty five.

Jump on it. I paid $200 for mine used. Granted, it came with 2 extra mags and a cerakote camo paint job but $220 is a great deal.

I bought a used 9mm for somewhere around $200-225 a couple years ago, and I love it. mine won't cycle aluminum case, but it runs every brand brass and steel fine. I just don't buy aluminum anymore.
