CDNN has the SD9VE for $269. That’s got to be the Best Buy in a handgun available today.

They are fine guns, good reliable and inexpensive. My current favorite is the Taurus Millennium G2C. A lot of gun for the money and a much better trigger pull than the aforementioned Smith. I know I'll probably get blasted, but don't knock em if you haven't tried one. Better features than the Glock in my opinion. Maybe not as rugged but fully serviceable!
I like those Taurus G2 s as well. My big beef is with taurus themselves. Seems like they get a winner and then dump it and come out with a new gun. Parts are a pain to track down as well.

Taurus has dumped a lot of solid guns the last few years. They even dumped the TCP and PT25 which were solid pocket autos. Now they replaced the TCP with the spectrum which has had all kinds of issues.

Smith and Wesson was smart with the SD9. They basically took the tried and true sigma, changed the looks, and told everyone it wasnt a Sigma anymore LOL.

Remember folks, there were generations of the pistol.
The Sigma was the original.
The SW 9 VE is the one I have.
The SD 9 was different with a front night sight.
Currently the SD9 VE is current with a special finish for the Academy Sports Company.

The current SD series has the equivalent of the Glock NY Trigger at about 10 or 11 pounds.

The SW9VE I have tried and failed to improve the trigger. I'm told the trigger kits for the SD are more effective, BUT now you are heading into SWaMPy territory.

Shooters Firearms & Accessories | In Store Sales Flyer

The SD is listed at $279.99 but there is currently a $25 rebate from S&W.

The SWaMPy Compact is listed at $399.99 and there is a $50 rebate from S&W. Prices from 07-01-2018. YMMV in local pricing.

2018 Summer Savings Promotion | Smith & Wesson

Geoff
Who must confess he likes the trigger on the Walther Creed better than the rest of the budget 9mms. I paid $339.99 over the counter for it when it was new.

I ask because I've noticed that on *rmslist and a local gun trader site there seem to be lots of them for sale relative to the number made.

I know nothing about these pistols and have nothing against them. I'm just wondering why I see so many of them listed for sale.

I did a little checking on the Internet and found them going for less than $300 brand new.

What's the story?
Pull the trigger on one a couple of times and you'll know the story.

My Glock 19 has the Euro proof marks. I bought it as a Gen 2 made in 1989. Got a chip in the magazine well of the frame. Took it to Glock, they replaced the frame with a Gen 3 for free. Now has two different serials.

I live near Orlando, FL and there seems to be more than our fair share of home invasions.

In 2009 I decided to buy a gun for home defense. Looking around the house it became evident that I only needed a gun that was very reliable and accurate at a maximum of thirty feet.

My second consideration was that if I was unlucky enough to use it, the police might take it for evidence.

Gander Mountain had a sale going on at the time for a Sigma 9 or 40 with two mags and a coupon for two more free ones.

S&W has a great reputation so I bought the SW40VE because the gun magazines were very favorable to the .40 at that time.

The only drawback was a stiff trigger pull but I found it did not stop me from eating the bullseye out of a target at my ideal ten yard distance.

I have found this Sigma to be totally reliable and much prefer the grip to similar Glocks I've handled. It feels like an old friend by now and I couldn't care less if someone looks down their nose at it..

Although it is slightly larger than my CCW 9mm pistols it is intended for home defense only.

If I had to do over I would have chosen the SW9VE so I wouldn't have to buy two different sizes of ammo for my centerfire autos.

Don't waste a minute of your time wondering why there are so many guns like these out there. People buy, sell and trade all the time and these guns due to price are easy to move, I would imagine.

I'm enjoying my SD9 with the fiber sights very much.

I have a SW9VE That broke two strikers in less than 200 rounds. S&W took care of both times at no cost to me but I cannot trust it
anymore for anything except plinking.

I went to Gunbroker and type in my search term and then clicked "used". Here's what came up:

SD9VE - 22 matches
M&P 9mm - 212 matches
Glock 19 - 179 matches
SW9VE - 33 matches
Shield 9mm - 116 matches
Ruger LC9S - 42 matches

My point is that what is available for sale has little bearing on it's quality or reliability. In fact the more popular a gun is, the more often it shows up for sale used. The SD9VE is one of the top ten selling handguns in the US, along with the Shield 9mm and the Glock 19.

I did a trigger job on my SD40 and my S&W40 as well. Had some failure to load into battery with my S&W, Sent it back to the factory, they did some work on it then when I received it back I took them both to the range and no problems at all now. They even returned the aftermarket trigger spring I had put into it, it has been reinstalled back into my S&W40 all at no charge to me at all. Now that is customer service and I have a hard time deciding what to carry when I leave the Non Rebuplic of Marylandstine...The non free state...

At those prices it doesn't make sense to dump it, cuz you wonít get nothin for it.

A guy at work has probably 20 Glocks. He buys them all. No first genís but second gen through five. He showed me a pic of them laid out. So stupid looking. They all look the same. He got the 43 the day it came out. Same with the 42.

Frankly, I’ve only seen two used SD9VEs for sale at shops in the past five or so years. Both were listed at about the same price as a new one from an on line seller. Given that shops typically offer 50-70% of what they believe they can sell a used gun for there isn’t much incentive to trade one in, much less sell it outright. If a shop has to sell a used SD for about the price of a new one, most people will probably buy the new one if only for the warranty. I like the SD9VE that I have. It’s really all one needs in a SD pistol. I think the SD9VE is the modern version of the Model 10 revolver (yeah, I know some will argue the trigger, but I find it manageable with practice). If could find a used SD9VE for about $175-200
I’d have another

This was my observation. The ones that I have handled worked perfectly but had hard, heavy trigger pulls.

They really are great shooters, for not much money, and even have the S&W name on them!

I don't post much on here don't get on as much as I would like but love the looks, feel and the brand it's a solid firearm from a dang good company and as far as the trigger goes if you can't hit what you aim at with it you might want to figure something else out

A few years back, the SD9VE was one of the better budget pistols.
Heavy trigger but utterly reliable. Retailed about $269 but often on sale for $200. That’s when I got mine. Keeping it stock. No issues.

Now there are many more options at close to the same price point.
SD’s running $260’s on sale. Ok for a basic no frills pistol.
But Rugers SR9C and Security 9 are close in price.

A friend of my son purchased an SD40VE on Gun Broker for 160.00. He said he bid on this just for the fun of bidding and lo and behold, he won it. I was a little suspicious of the price be after talking to the friend, he confirmed it. He doesn't like the trigger but may install an aftermarket set up. So good for him, I'm waiting for the range report, which may be at my home range. All in all, a step up from the High Point .45 as his carry gun. And at a good price!

The Apex trigger and spring kit is practically mandatory for these guns. I have them and it's like a brand new pistol almost.
