Some can be. Depends on the holster. I know that certain Fobus and Blackhawk holsters designated as SW M&P will fit both SD9VE and SW9VE models. They are very similar in size.

Bought a Fobus SWMP paddle holster for my SW9VE. It also fits the SD9VE. I did quite a bit of research before buying this holster including considering other manufacturers. I wanted a paddle style holster primarily for open carry or under a shirt. I have to say the Fobus SWMP seems to fit the bill to a tee. Fits my pistol very well and rides on my hip at about 3:30 very comfortably. The fixed cant is perfect, allowing for a smooth draw (I was initially concerned about this). So far the holster has stayed in place when I draw and I can attach and detach it with no problems. The retention is great after a little adjustment. If you are looking for a deep concealment holster, this is probably not the best choice. However, with a shirt pulled over, it will get the job done. All and all, I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone seeking a quality OWB holster. BTW I ordered on a Tuesday and got it and was wearing it on Thursday.

I don't know if Fobus designed it this way, but the little Fobus insignia at the top of the holster works very well as a place for your index finger to rest when you draw the pistol, ensuring the finger is above the trigger guard when fully drawn. It seems to work that way for me. I'm really beginning to love this holster!

I found a Blackpoint Tactical leather wing OWB holster that was made for a SIG SP2022. Got it for ~$15 from CDNN Sports. The only issue I had initially was that when I holstered the gun, the mag was dropped due to the holster pressing the mag release. Took about 5 mins and a heat gun to fix that issue. Now the SD9VE snaps right in. The holster secures the gun very well.
