Default sights

Ive had absolutely no luck dealing with S&W .
I love my SD9VE , i read there has been an issue with sights coming loose.
This is what happened to my front sight. I was at my range , enjoying a nice afternoon , before i know it , i noticed my sight flew off. For the life of me i couldnt find it.

Its been over 8 months dealing with S&W headoffice , the canadian distributors , and anyone who will listen , and still nobody can replace my sight for me... they say they dont have any... and I continue to wait.

Im wondering what other models of pistols would have a compatable front sight.

Ive hear glock and m&p

Im at my witts end trying to find a reasonably priced front site

Any help would be appreciated

Sights from the M&P will fit. Lots of strategies are available to get replacements but the cheapest would be to get a discard from someone who replaced theirs with a night sight of some type. Any gunsmith can install the front sight... Usually for around $30-40... you could do the work with a sight pusher...

The SD Series uses M&P Sights, it was the last gen SW models that used similar sights to that of the Glock, but they weren't exactly the same and require a fair amount of fitting.

Stock M&P Sights are cheap and highly available, which leads me to doubt that S&W is actually out of stock. You might want to try calling them again and ask to speak with a manager, because I can only presume that the folks who you've been speaking to are simply ignorant of the fact that the SD Series uses M&P Sights, and thus is running a search for "SD Sights" to no avail, then telling you they don't have any in stock out of ignorance.

On thinking about the OP's post, I finally recalled that you mentioned "Canadian distributors." If the OP is in Canada, that could be part of the problem. U.S. companies cannot export gun parts without a lot of permissions and paperwork. The Department of State and the Commerce Department stringently control the exportation of gun parts from the USA.

Unfortunately, none of us here south of the border can help as individuals either, since it would be a violation of the law for us to send a gun part out of the country -- even something as innocuous as a small piece of metal like a front sight for a pistol.

The problems with exporting gun parts might even pertain to S&W itself -- it may not be worth the trouble and cost to do everything required for an export permit to ship a small, relatively inexpensive part to an individual in Canada -- so that may be why you are getting negative results from S&W in Springfield, MA.

I did a quick Google search on gun parts and Canada -- there are a number of businesses in Canada that sell M&P sights. You might need to buy a set of front and rear sights for the M&P pistol, which will fit the SD, from one of those Canadian stores. One of those stores might have just a front sight, which would save you money, but it is more likely they have sights in front/rear sets. But that would give you the opportunity to upgrade your rear sight, too, if it has the basic white painted dots. Trijicon, Ameriglo, Meprolight, etc., all make good night sights for M&Ps.

Or, you might get on some gun forums in Canada and ask if anyone has upgraded their M&P sights and has a left-over front sight in a box somewhere. That would be the best bet from an economy point of view, and presumably would not violate any laws or regulations. Good luck! Let us know when you get this problem solved!
