Sigma sear assembly

Just purchased a secondhand Sigma and noticed the following on the sear assembly:
-no pigtail spring
-only one coil spring (small)
-channel pins have a divot on the face and cannot be pressed out

Is this normal?

Trigger pull is very gritty, which I have attributed to the sear assembly.

Your input on improving the trigger feel would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sounds like someone has 'worked' on it before. As with any trigger job, polishing the points of contact with trigger bar, sear, and striker block will help.

You're going to need to remove pins though.

Any advice on removing the pins? They appear to be dimpled from factory.

Further observation of the sear assembly shows the smaller spring binding against the retaining post, causing a noticeable click when a coil catches the retaining post. Does the outer spring (currently missing) play a role in preventing this?

As it is now, the sear assembly is gritty and feels almost indexed.

When you say dimpled are you saying they are peened? Can you post a picture?

Keep in mind there are several variations/generations of "Sigma", and
each has changes in spring arrangements.

I have one of the original models in .40, and it doesn't have as many
springs involved with the sear, as later models.

Are you by chance looking at roll pins?

Use roll pin punches, to drive roll pins.

I have an SW9VE which has a sear pin that looks exactly like that.

Were you able to push the pins out to perform any modifications? If so, I would love to hear the process.

I bought a punch set at the local Lowes. It has various size punches. A small hammer will slowly drive it out. Punches are a must-have when working with most springs.

No issues reinstalling. Watch some youtube videos to help.

Those pins have been staked, to hold in place.

If you drive em out, they will likely be a looser fit
when replaced, and tend to wander out on their
own.

When I installed my new pins I applied a drop of blue Locktite on both ends after I got it installed.

Aren't the pins offset (one side has a smaller diameter) such that the pins can only be pressed out in a specific direction? If so, I believe the side with the larger diameter faces the plastic sear housing and is retained in that manner.

Send it back to S&W with a detailed description of what's wrong and they will fix it for FREE. It doesn't matter if you're the original owner or not. I was not the original owner of many S&W firearms and sent them back to be fixed, FREE of charge.
