Rattle in magazine
Has anyone figured out a way to make a double stacked magazine not rattle ? I have a SD40 and anything over 8 rounds and it will play jingle bells no matter what I do

Many/most of the S&W double stack mags rattle slightly when fully loaded. Always have, never effected reliability. If you're worried about giving away your position. as faint as the noise is, your knocking knees will probably make more noise.

Almost all semi-auto cartridges have some amount of taper in the case design, it might be very slight, as in the .45 ACP but it is there. When you stack rounds in the magazine, the bases will stack on top of the next round, but the mouth of the case with bullet will have varying amounts of space all the way around and that's where you get the rattle.

Folks worry way too much over something so simple. It's just a noise and it really only happens if you deliberately shake/rattle the magazine around in my experience.
The magazines in my SW40VE only rattle if I deliberately shake/rattle them in my hand. When loaded into the gun itself, the most noise they make is a dull "cla-clack" if the draw it from the holster quickly.
I've never had any of the magazines make any audible sound while secured inside of a pouch or even my pocket.
Folks are borderline obsessive and paranoid over the idea that something that the average passer-by would never even notice is somehow going to alert them that they're carrying a firearm.
Personally, I'm still waiting on the illusive fashion-savvy, serial cop-killing gang-banger to shoot me on sight for wearing 5.11 brand pants/belts, as the average paranoid guy on gun forums has repeatedly asserted is practically an inevitability.

Hubby had a rattling Walther. It quieted a little bit when he smacked the front of the magazine against his hand. Had to repeat the mag smack daily.

Most that ask questions like these are 1st time firearms owners.

Kind of along the same lines of folks who fuss about the noise velcro equipted mag pouches make. When you point out that if you are at a point where you have already fired 10 - 30 rounds to empty you mag, then that little noise that the velcro makes is nothing.

My Glock 19 magazines rattle when loaded. I usually slap the floor plate, then don't do any jumping jacks.
Wilson magazine fans are going to be yelling, "Blasphemy!," at the screen when they read this. I have 8 round Wilson .45 magazines that do it, too.
I don't recall whether any of my M&P magazines do it, though.
