I purchased a SD40 about 6 months ago. I have probably put 100 rounds through it so far. I have noticed a clicking noise when pulling the slide back to chamber a round. This happens right about a half an inch when starting to pull. It sounds like metal striking the polymer and not metal on metal. I noticed this when it failed to chamber the next round (jamb), and I pulled to eject the jammed cartridge and the next 3 jammed as well. I took it apart and cleaned it, did not notice anything falling out or anything out of place. I reassembled it and tried it again and had no jamming issue, but the noise remained. I checked the local stores to see if anyone had one in stock to compare it to, but no luck. This may be normal and I just did not notice it before and just being paranoid. Does anyone have the SD40 or the SD40VE that can tell me if theirs does the same, or anyone experienced this and had to have repairs performed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The clicking sound may just be the trigger resetting as the slide is moving back. As for your failures, what ammo are you using? Can you try different ammo?

Winchester 165 ball. Only 1 round hung while firing. The rest were when ejecting unfired. When this happened fired a shot, it ejected the spent round and hung while clambering. So I pulled back, bullet came out, grabbed the next one and again hung while clambering, 4 times total. I pulled clip and ejected and thats when the click caught my ear. Naturally when something weird happens, things jump out at me. It may have been clicking before, but never noticed it. Most of the ammo I shot in this is the Winchester, works well in my M&P Shield. I will be able to do some shooting this weekend, so I will try it again and see with other ammo as well.

1. If you dry fire an SD, you can hear the click of the sear reset about 3/8" back from slide rest.
2. Trouble feeding rounds in a new gun can come from:
a. Dirt and/or insufficient lube on slide
b. Burrs on magazine lips or gummy magazine (disassemble mags)
c. Riding the slide when charging manually

This would be my guess, you probably didn't clear the malfunction with enough authority.
