While dry firing the Sigma last night, the striker broke off. Clean break too. Oh man this sucks. Now I feel really stupid, making that thread praising this gun. Is there a place other than S&W that sells strikers? According to S&W I have to send my gun to them to have it repaired. They won't sell me the striker. Thing is I can't afford to ship it in, and no I am not the orignal owner, so no warrenty for me. Can anyone out there please give me any info on what I should do?

Call customer service. Don't tell them you are not the original owner. Bet you they will take it in and pay shipping.

It doesn't matter if your are not the original owner...call S&W they usually send a call tag to you and it will be back in your hands in very short time. Their customer service is the best in the business.

Damn, I told them in my email that I wasn't the orignal owner. Well they emailed me back, here is the email.
Smith & Wesson
Dear Sir/Madam:
We have received your e-mail regarding your S&W handgun. You note that there is a problem with your handgun or you are requesting some work to be performed.
We would like you to forward your handgun with a letter describing the problems along with your return address (No P.O. Boxes) and phone number. You may return the handgun to our facility by contacting FedEx at 800-463-3339 to request pick up at your location or take the parcel to a FedEx facility or Authorized Ship Center. When you complete the FedEx airbill, in Section 7 indicate "bill to recipient" and insert your return number as xxxx-xxxx-x. The package must be shipped using FedEx Standard Overnight service. There will be no charge to you to return the handgun. Address the parcel and the FedEx airbill to:
Customer Service
2100 Roosevelt Avenue
Springfield, MA 01104
After examination of the handgun, if we find any manufacture defects, the repair will be covered under our warranty policy. We will then make any necessary adjustments to ensure the handgun is returned to our manufacturing standards.
If this repair does not fall under our warranty, then a repairman will contact you with an estimate to repair the handgun.
If you need any further assistance in this matter, please feel free to call our toll free number 1-800-331-0852.

Call LSG Manufacturing at (325) 885-2700. They are an authorized S&W Factory Service Center. Frank will supply you with a Fed Ex shipping number so you can send the pistol into him for repair. He will then ship it back to your door. I wouldn't mention that you are not the original owner. LSG is located in Texas and their turn-around time is usually outstanding!

Can I use my padded case to ship my pistol? I don't have the blue plastic box the gun came in.
It is the same size as the plastic case though.
Yes I know, I still have to use a box.

So what do you guys think about that email above? Does that mean that S & W will pay for shipping both ways? I just hope it doesn't cost too much to fix, its only a broken striker.

Yes, use the original case the pistol came in. When you get it to the Fed Ex depot, they will seal the whole thing up in a Fed Ex overnight box.
And yes, I'd say it's a 99.9% chance that S&W will cover the repair.

Where are you shipping it from that it is so expensive? Even next day air should only be about $25 bucks.

I don't have the original plastic case. What I do have is one of those black padded cases. I'm going to the fedex store in a little bit. Thanks guys for taking time out of your day to help me out.

It is in the mail, on it's way to Springfield MA. How long will it take to get my pistol back? Also will they ship it back to me at my home, or will S&W send it back to the Authorized FedEx shipping center? My name is not on the shipping label, that has me kind of concerned.

I am assuming you enclosed a note with your name, address, and phone number? If not, you should probably get on the phone with them and let them know it's coming and who it's from.
Anyway, yes, they will send it back to your house. The package will require a signature by an adult, so you or another adult will need to be at the house when UPS or Fed Ex arrives with it.
I don't know what kind of turn-around S&W has right not, but I'm sure you could call them and ask.

Yes I did include a letter with my pistol.
I hope I get my black padded case back. I'm more concerned about getting my gun back though.

My guess is you will get everything back except the broken parts.

S&W will return your gun to your home address as mentioned earlier. They will have an adult signature required to receive it. It will come back to you just as you sent it other than the broken parts. Often S&W will include extra mags and they have always paid shipping both ways. That is why they are tops in my book for Customer Service!

My gun is now at S&W, they got it in on Friday morning. So what happens now? I mean will S&W contact me about my pistol? Or do I have to call them?

I would guess that what happens next is that they fix it, then ship it back to you. They will probably call the day it ships out just so you know to expect it the next day.

Nice, I hope it goes down just like that. Still, if I don't hear from them by this Thursday I will give them a ring a ding.

Tslepebull I did take pics of the broken striker. Thing is the pics did not come out right. Just imagine the whole tip is gone, nothing there now. Like the tip of a pencil has broken off.

Ih8suvz, are you saying the firing pin end broke off; not the end that engages the sear?

Yes the part that hits the primer broke off.
Oh yeah, I got a letter from S&W today. S&W says 2-3 weeks and I should have my gun back.

I know this is a moot point now since the OP already sent his gun in, but when I shipped my SW9VE to Frank, the clerk at the FedEx depot (A real FedEx depot, not Kinkos) said that they would not ship a firearm in one of their FREE Overnight Boxes, but that I would have to buy a plain white box that they were more than willing to sell me. I asked when this policy had changed and she said it has always been that way. Maybe it has or maybe she gets a commission on selling boxes? The same size box (13x12x3) was only $2.25 + tax and they tacked it on to the shipping charge that Frank was paying for anyway. I did let him know about this policy.

Then I got ripped off! Frank only sent me back the 2 mags I sent in with the gun!

Again, its too late for the OP, but I sent my gun in to Frank on a Saturday and I got it back the following Thursday. On top of that, he apologized for taking so long!

Yay I got my gun back today.
Looks like S&W replaced not only the striker, but the whole striker assembly as well and it looks like they had fun test firing my gun. This is first time it has been fired in 3 years. Thank you Smith & Wesson.
