Default SD9 FDE

Found this USED at a Pawn Shop this afternoon & when I say USED that's just a term for Pre-Owned as the Pistol is 100% NEW
Paid $284.99 & Only came with the extra magazine
It's so clean & unused there isn't a mark or scratch anywhere on the pistol, barrel, inside or even a scratch on the followers or feed ramp. I Swear It's New..
The striker & catch don't even have a scratch & appeared to never have been oiled or cleaned or Shot Ever
I Have a Question for more experienced SD/Sigma Owners = What Did the VE stand for on some of these pistols?
I Found a Holster in my Holster Box that is Perfect, It's a Leather Gould & Goodrich for a Full Size Heckler & Koch USP
Looks to be the Next Addition to the Polymer S&W Clan

The Rural King store in my area had these on clearance when I got mine, $279 + tax. picked up the 9 and the 40. Already had the Black/Silver 9 & 40 SDVE. They make these in Green and Gray also. At some point I may pick up a set of each. They are a great, reliable pistol, never had an issue with any of them. :-)

I thought it stood for Victory over Europe, producing a glockclone for $199.99 (Very short sale) out the door. Now they are selling for $339.99 in NE Florida.

Geoff
Who bought his SW9VE an earlier model with slimmer grip, for $289.99 on sale.

Congratulations. I haven't seen one in FDE for years now.

Value Enhanced, actually. Prior to the release of the SW9/40VE there was the SW9/40E in which the E stood for Enhanced because it was an upgrade over previous models which lacked any grip texture, then they released a reduced price version of the E model with a propriety rail and bare stainless steel with the VE prefix.

Awesome! You got lucky with that find. Those "budget" S&W's are really anything but. They are great performers.

You could contact then via chat/e-mail requesting a DoB, just give them the Serial Number and they can look it up, that's how I found out when my used SW40VE was made.

There was also a SW9VE back some years ago. Think about the time of "Gulf War II." They was a model called the "Allied Forces" model (rather that was official or not, I have no idea). It had a black slide and frame. Very good looking gun. A number of them were issued to Iraqi (and/or Afgan) police units, so the story went. Made sense at the time anyway. They were also available on the market here also. It had a black slide/black body. Good looking gun. I had one, but sold it to a fellow who was starting a job as a security guard, and needed an inexpensive 9mm handgun.

It was available in the standard SS/black also. It was eventually replaced with the SD9VE. Again, I have no read idea what changes were made, but if you ever see an SW9VE, it does look somewhat different from today's gun.

I think they were available in a "kit" with a flashlight and pocket knife. I've still got the light/knife. Still have the same battery in the light, but it's not like it gets used a lot.

From what I have read on the internet from a S&W Press Release
SD Stands For Self Defense
The SD evolved from The Sigma Series Pistol that came before it
The SD9VE was introduced in 2012 = Self Defense Value Enhanced
In The Press Release it said the VE had a Stainless Barrel & Slide or they meant Satin Finish Stainless Steel where as the Blued one like the one I found has Armornite finish over Stainless?? Will try a Magnet on the slide & barrel & see
In This Link it shows the SD9 as Having a Stainless Steel Slide & Barrel Too? Maybe they where Carbon Steel @ One Time & Changed OR??
SD | Smith & Wesson
I will also note that the SD9VE without fiber optic sights cost $6 less than SD9 Here--->Pistols | Smith & Wesson
MSRP is $395
Here's a page that shows all the current SD Series but I have also seen one that's frame was Robin's Egg Blue which is more than Likely a Lipsey Special Edition whos frame has been DuraCoated/Painted

Academy Sports also had a custom version of the SD 9 and 40 with a front night site and a gray or green lower.

The "custom" guns were about $50 higher than their regular SD9s.

Geoff
Who notes their "close out" gun deals are good, but know your prices going in.

I didn't know the pricing on the SD9 Friday, BUT knew that was a Decent Deal @ $285, I did get them to knock $15 Off but that was only 5%
Didn't even have a Cell Phone with Me, As We usually price check everything we intend to buy while I am standing there
I will find out the Birth Date & Assume it is a current production or it has been stored away without even being touched
Been Looking on GunBroker @ a few SD9 FDEs & the Price I paid is just about right
About the same price of a Taurus G3 & IMO a Much more rugged unit

When I lubed it up with TW-25B I removed the striker & it was "As New"
There wasn't even any residue in the channel when I wiped it out with a fresh Q-Tip, It also had zero lubrication

You Have to also Understand that the SD9 Shield 9 2.0 & 380EZ are replacements for $800-$1000 HKs that now sit in their cases locked in a safe in my basement

When I went out to the Grocery this morning the Shield was slipped into the pocket of my leather coat

The SD9 won't go out to the car until I fire a couple hundred threw it & know I can trust it with my life

I loaded up the magazines & noted that the white followers have zero marks or powder & the magazine springs etc. are new when I wiped them out, The magazines look stainless but think they are chrome plated carbon steel
Here's a photo of the white followers with flash & the Gould & Goodrich Leather Snap Holster from my Holster box for a full size Hk USP, Also found a FDE Magazine carrier in there too

i didn't know they made them in fde, does it means there are new productions or did s&w dabble in fde gun frames earlier than anyone else?

i appreciate s&w finally breaking gap stain clock's back and monopoly and introducing the sigma which eventually led to the superior m&p 9 line of striker pistols, but i just hate the way the sigma looks. it looks almost too much like a toy.

Will have to wait & see what they say on this pistol

Rural King shows this as being $350
But are out of stock of the FDE
Show as having the Gray one @ $380

I got an $75 Galco Paddle Holster for an Hk Today & Bet the SD9 will fit in it By It's Looks.. Will Report Back.. Cost $25 Shipped BTW..

I had a Guy on the M&P Forum Tell me I should have my eyes checked
The Reason was I was looking at a $650 Hk P2000 357 SIG & a $520 Glock 19X & the Hk Sold & had my choice & bought a Bargain $285 S&W SD9
I'm stoked to have a brand new bargain handgun that IMO rivals a Glock

I even changed my avatar

Everyone tells stories of their great handgun buys

Mine was a $227 Hk P7M8 two decades ago
Got sold at a HUGE $1000 Profit & got to shoot the daylights out of it & carry it for a couple years..

I think the V Enhanced also meant it has an accessory rail. The earlier V models did not have one.

From what I could ascertain the value came from S&W not having to coat the barrel or slide = Saving them $6 per pistol
Enhanced just might have been the accessory rail, The early ones had the proprietary rail just like the HKs did which nothing was made to fit except an Insight UTL Flashlight that now cost big bucks because of their scarcity

I Really Like the SD Pistol & how great a value it is
When you go to S&Ws Website & Search if you put Under $400 the SD is the only gun that comes up period

I have the SD9 in a drawer in the Kitchen waiting for a Range Trip with it before it becomes the gun left in the car

Welcome unikey aka MonMon from Vietnam
Good Luck selling those holsters here
You should try the Classified Section

I actually bought my SD40 in FDE in about 2018 simply because it was a good price and the FDE frame on the black slide looks really good to me. Don't care for a gun all FDE. These SDs are definitely a gem for the price.

I warmed a FDE magazine holder up I bought for $5 & put the SD9s magazine in it & clamped it closed with foam & wood + a clamp & it came out OK..
Learned About Kydex Some.
Different FDE Color but works 100%
Cost Me $5

The Trigger will more than likely get an Apex or Springs or Both
I get bye fine with that hinged trigger on my Shield but the longer pull of the SD9 hurts my trigger finger which has arthritis
I see they offer an FDE Trigger or a Black one with FDE Safety
Action Enhancement Kit for SDVE

SHOP MONMON

Why in this SD9 Thread?
Just Wondered?
Try The Classifieds unikey
What kind of Leather? Pig, Horse, Cow, Lamb, Goat, Dog, Pleather?
How are the hides tanned Vegetable, Urine, Brain
Inquiring Minds Wanna Know

What's Crazy about the SD9 is I have a Buddy that wants it more than I do
He just loves it because of the price tag.
Should offer to sell it to him for a Christmas Gift To Himself when He gets his check
Have it loaded up in a kitchen drawer sitting right next to my Shield 9mm
After a test shoot it may make it out to my Wife's Car
If it had a shorter trigger stroke & didn't have that hinged trigger I wouldn't even consider selling it..
= Apex Trigger Kit or Galloway flat face.
I have no issue with the hinged trigger on My 9mm Shield 2.0
The SD9 seems like a GR8 rugged Pistol for the Money

Here's some Leather from Gould & Goodrich, DeSantis, Galco & Don Hume for the Hk USP Compact

Have a look at these @unikey might give you some inspiration for future leather builds, Note: How the leather is formed to the handguns shape GLWTS

Stopped at another Pawn Shop this afternoon @ 5:40pm & they had a SD9VE for $325 with some wear but in decent shape
After looking at the stainless slide & barrel it had me thinking Hmmmm?
Thought that the stainless slide & or barrel could fit in MY SD9 FDE
So I photoshopped a stainless slide on a FDE Frame just for kicks

Still think I did OK buying the NEW SD9 FDE for $285

Also kicking myself for not jumping on that Hk P2000 357 SIG for $650 that got away
One sold on Gunbroker Last Night for $1836.11
Worth Three Times what they wanted
Somebody SCORED!!

i appreciate s&w finally breaking gap stain clock's back and monopoly and introducing the sigma which eventually led to the superior m&p 9 line of striker pistols, but i just hate the way the sigma looks. it looks almost too much like a toy.
The SD with the FDE frame has been around for a few years now.

When I Called S&W they told me this SD9 FDE was made in August 2018
How could it be three+ years old & still remain unfired?
I guess some folks just buy to have a handgun around
Then sell it at the Pawn Shop @ a 50-60% Loss
Pawn Broker makes $150 & so it goes

Was thinking about selling this SD9 but think I'll keep it around to save wear & tear on more expensive not as easily replaceable firearms that are now locked in the safe in their cases
That's why I bought a 3rd magazine for it Thursday Morning
Besides it's 9mm & cheaper to shoot anyhow

Gotta go have a look at a patch I made from poplar for the face of a $2500 guitar that I epoxied in place earlier this morning
BTW I Paid $30 for it.. HaHa!! Buy Low sell High
It's a Parker Fly Deluxe, Google it, Super Expensive RARE!

Sorry Ruger Nut

Sold all my "Ruger" MKIIs, 10/22s & SP101s to help fund the house I currently OWN + many many others

I'm down to four handguns currently, two S&Ws & two H&Ks

Haven't even shot this S&W SD9 FDE but something tells me an APEX Trigger & Springs will be coming

Here's a few photos of my Shield 2.0 & my Son's 380EZ + the two Heckler & Kochs for some variety

I Just Had Too!!
Sorry Ruger Nut

Trigger on this thing does need some help BUT really isn't as bad as I remember the Early Sigma's having

I've been looking at the Apex & Galloway Kits along with the other springs Ruger Nut linked to in the other thread

Now that I have looked them over the Apex is talking louder than the Boudica Trigger to Me

Still unsure about that & it will wait till later on

You know on another forum they where asking about how the rear sight of an M&P needed removing to get at the striker safety & I said that on the SD9 you had to remove the extractor via a 1/16" roll pin

And YEAH! Love that SD9 FDE's Color
I'd Buy a Green One Too!

With the APEX trigger you can almost bet that you will have to file it down a little bit. With the Galloway trigger, drop it in and start shooting!

This is something else you should add to your FDE. It sure makes field stripping a lot easier when having to remove the slide.
I just posted this one in case you wanted it. BUT, a Glock G19/G23 will drop right into your FDE. And, it's almost half the price. I have one in my SD9.

Here's something else you can buy for your FDE. Since I couldn't find a grip plug made for my SD9, I bought one for a Glock and trimmed it down to fit my grip. I think it was for a Gen 3 Glock.

Rosewood
(F)Actually, the SW40VE came with a rail: unfortunately it was not a "standard" Pickatinny rail: it needed an adaptor.

There was a laser sight called the StingRay that was designed for it and fits perfectly. Still does...

Cheers!

That is what I said. VE=v enhanced = rail, v only, no rail.

The one with just E, without V also has rail.

O.K. I changed my post to "(F)Actually..."

(I actually was just pointing out the nature of the rail.)

Cheers!

I'd like to see the rail & the Sting Ray Laser

I bet it fits a USP Hk as they also used a proprietary rail different than the picatinny & 1913 type

S&W was looking hard at the USP as far as slide shape etc.

See The Fraternal Twins Below, They are Hk USP Compact 40 S&Ws
NOTE: The Rails, This pic shows both sides

Ruger Nut I have a Butt Plug for a Glock 26 Gen 4 in my stash of stuff
I will see if it'll fit in the SD9 or as you did modify it to fit
Think it's bigger than that looks?

Might get another G26.4 though? or G26.5 FDE or OD Green

I saw this same gun at the gun show today $369 new with 2 mags. I don't know why everybody rags on them; I think they are good guns by reputation

I myself noticed the SD9VE & SD40VE but never paid attention to them & just thought of them as a Sigma or a Glock Copy

Didn't realize that they were not M&Ps but something totally different & unique

I have a Glock 19X here & the SD9 FDE is just as tough a pistol

There triggers are totally different animals but quite robust
The disconnector being part of the trigger bar is genius

I'm Going to put this pistol into Duty in the Truck

@Univibe are you a Guitar Player?

We have so many Guitars & basses = Gibsons Les Paul M-III, The Hawk, Fenders Mustang, Stinger, Parker Fly, Brian Moore i 1.13, B.C. Rich Eagle, Ovation 1617, Peavey, Steinberger XP-2, Ibanez SR-300, Jackson JPB-7 & DK2M etc.

@Ruger Nut Your PM Box is Full & needs some messages deleted
Here's the info given when I just tried to PM You

--> Ruger Nut has exceeded their stored private messages quota and cannot accept further messages until they clear some space.

Ruger Nut sent me a set of stick-on rubber grips for the SD9 & I was just sending a photo of mine next to a Glock
Haven't applied the grips yet as I need to find a Hair Dryer & I'm Bald & have never needed one

Thanks, Ruger Nut, for the great Gift & Card
Now I need the spring kit & flat faced trigger

Found the Hair Dryer & cleaned the grip panels with alcohol prep pads & applied them a few minutes ago.
I need to run out to the freezing cold garage & get a drill bit for another project which is to mount a super powerful light above the computer picture taking area in my Man Cave
I'll get some pictures in a while

Gary the Grinch HaHaHa!! HoHoHo!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS Everybody
