Default tulammo small rifle primers

this question may be answered in another post but i could not find it.

! reload for my SD9VE and I reload for a friend's Glock .40.

i have access to tulammo small rifle primers. which are about half the cost of Winchester SPP.

i know that small rifle primers will work in a 9 and in a 40, but may be an issue with a striker fired pistol because of strikes too light for a small rifle primer.

anyone had experience with using Tulammo small rifle primers in a striker fired pistol like an SD9ve or Glock .40?

thanks george t

I have never used SRP in pistol loads. I know that some have and it has worked for them, but if I remember correctly it was used in revolvers or hammer fired autos. These striker fired pistols may not ignite those harder SRP’s. When I installed the Apex spring kit in 4 different SD9VE’s, I had to reinstall the factory striker spring in one of them due to light strikes.

This is one of those Can 'O Worms questions that you'll never get a solid answer. All you can do is try it out but even if it works don't rely on it for critical needs. Plinking ammo only.

I think it's fairly well established that the SRP is harder than any SPP.

ETA: If the Tulas are intended for AR use they'll be even harder than a standard SRP. I think the upside is that if they don't work or you, you can probably sell them off, since you say you can get a good price on them.

Default tula primers

hey guys- thanks for the quick response. but it has become a moot point. the dealer (Discount Ammo) i was trying to buy the primers from will only accept zelle for payment, takes a smart phone, which i do not have. and i can not get them to email me back for another way to pay.

it is probably just as well that i could not get the primers for use in my SD9VE or my friends Glock. just had a bad feeling about using SRP in a my SD9 as i put in the Apex kit that i really like. not sure about Glocks either. though i do have a Springer 1911 9m which would probably be ok.

but as I said, I will not be able to get the primers from Discount Ammo. it was the only place in the US I could find ANY primers. primers are available in Canada, but they will not ship to USA. bummer!

i searched online and visited at least 50 (literally) different sellers and nada. brass is almost impossible too.

maybe my grandkids will be able to buy primers. i am glad i still have bunch of 22LR.

thanks again.

For future reference I had a buddy who swore by them in an age where primers were cheap and plentiful- 2013. I dont know what SRP you had available, but purchase the standard SRP and avoid the SRP-223 version. He used these for loads in a 9mm 1911 FWIW.

George t, that may be a blessing in disguise. I've not heard of Discount Ammo, and they may be a really great company. But their payment scheme sends a big red scam-flag up to me. It sounds very close to some attempted scams that have been posted here within the past couple of months. I was almost taken in by a scammer calling themselves "Royal Cartridge" (or something like that) on a similar deal for S&B primers prior to posting about it here. If you haven't previously done business with them, I'd recommend checking them out very closely prior to sending any money, regardless of how they want you to pay. -S2

yeah, i got that same "too good to be true if it is so hard to do."

i did some research on paying by "zelle" and it really looked super hackable and hinky. maybe "send money to Nigeria" a give away.

seriously, i have run into two other sites for either brass or primers and that i could not get answers from.

all the known sites are SOS, so out of stuff.

trying to find 32 winchester special brass or 30-30 brass to resize to 32 winchester. that is proving almost impossible too. only place wants $146 for a 100! which really does not do much good if no primers.

thanks for input.

You dodged a scam.

Watch ammoseek.com for primers. Brownells and Midway have primers on and off for $75 to $100 plus shipping. I ordered 2 bricks today. $190 tax, tag and title. Very expensive for primers but I'm a buyer.

I'll get you started:

i thought i posted this reply but apparently it disappeared into the ethernet.

thanks for the "hus". (viet nam era for giving some one a hand)

i looked on ammo seek and found primers but they were out of my price range for the amount of primers you get considering how much i have to pay for 30-30 brass to resize to 32 winchester special.

i guess i will hoard what i have and only shoot sparingly, except when i have to get ready for my retired LEO CCW yearly requal.

maybe our grandkids will find reasonable price reloading components.

Brownell's and Midway are the 2 I watch for. I leave ammoseek open in a tab and check it a few times throughout the day. They both add 20 or 30 bucks in hazmat and shipping but Brownell's has a limit of 2,000 (to Midways 1,000). I was paying $40/1000 locally pre-covid so it's 2x more.

i will do that.

by the way- as grandparent and a retired cop and a sherrif's chaplain, i have seen more heartache and trouble caused by social media than i ever thought possible, especially among young people. i think it is one of the worst things to happen to our society.

at least with dope, you are usually just doing it to yourself.

sorry to get on my soapbox in pistol forum, but your byline it a hot button.
