Default Rear sight dot removal...

I know everyone talks about replacing the rear sights because they are polymer, not metal. I'm one that figured if the frame is polymer, then the sight should be fine. I have always hated the rear dots. Mine were not symmetrical and very obnoxious. Today I got tired of it and took a piece of 220 sandpaper to the rear sight. All I have to say is that blacked out rear sights are the way for irons. No sharpies. No paint. No chemicals. Just a few minutes of careful sanding.

The white dots slow me down. I always get rid of them. I also get rid of front sight dots.

I’m of the sharpie or shoe polish school, but your method is the best if you’re not going to sell the gun. The next owner may not realize the benefit of no dots.

Nah. Black sharpies are not the same color black and have a tendency to "wash off" if you try to go over them too much. Also if you only mark out the dots themselves with a sharpie or nail polish then you still have a visible difference that can draw the eyes. I wanted a permanent and complete removal of the rear dots.
