1006 S&W Grips
I know you can get the straight back grips from S&W and that Hogue sells rubber and wood grips. How about the S&W arched and palm swell grips?
Were they factory options or just on special/specific models?
Can you buy'em anywhere (I've had no luck searching so far) or is it up to just posting WTB and browsing WTS forum ads?
Your info is much appreciated. -WS

Sorry to dig up an older thread, I am interested in the Palm Swell grips for my 4566TSW, after calling S&W this morning they said they would leave a gap, as they were designed for the frame mounted decocker. I picked up a set of arched grips listed for the 4506 on Gunbroker, but I think they may be the same way as it doesn't have the 90 degree corner in the front upper left side of the grip. Interested in the palm swells as the my newer arched ones, although better than the factory staight, still feel a tad thin.

I have the palm swell grips on my early 4506 as well as my 1006.
These grips were developed for the FBI to be used on the 1076 pistol, which is the shorter barrel frame mounted decocker version of the 1006.
I bought mine from Midway at @ $18 each a while ago. These grips had been unavailable anywhere until recently. In my opinion they are the best of the three available factory options for the 45xx/10xx series.
Yes there is a gap between the grip and the frame on the left side where the decocker would be, it is not too obvious and does not trouble me in the least.
Here is a photo of my 645 marked pistol with the grips.

Is that one of the late production hybrid 645's? The frame looks like a 3rd gen.

My pistol is by all appearances an early 4506 with the model stamped as 645. Apparently there were a handful or two of these that left the factory before the 4 digit designations were used. It makes it a transitional piece.

Here's a set on my 4506-1 and the gap is not really that discernible unless you know there's not supposed to be one. The xenoly grips are made tight and the open end has to be pulled apart slightly to get them into the frame, that helps to minimize the size of the gap (mine is between 1/32" and 1/16"... 3/64"??) when the grip springs back into shape.
I find the benefits far outweigh the minor cosmetic "flaw", IMHO I think they are what should have been put on the big 3rd Gen pistols to begin.
I bought these and a set of curved back grips directly from S&W about 6 months ago.

I just bought the factory curved backstrap grips for my 4566TSW, but I think I will be ordering the palm swells as well, because the curved ones still feel thin in my hands. The Crimson Trace grips on my 5906 fit my hand perfectly, so going from doubel stack to single stack is throwing me off a little.
