Default 4566 Grip Fitment Problem

Decided to treat my ex-police 4566 to a new straight grip. The original one was really showing its age and duty wear.
Ordered S&W replacement #203620000 from Brownell.
Went to install it and it would not fit correctly.
The middle front section where it snaps into the frame is flared out. No way I could squeeze the sides in to make them fit the frame. Appears as if it was moulded that way:

Can anyone confirm that this is actually a 4566 grip?
If it is, is there a trick to smashing it to fit? Heat gun maybe?

thanks,

I can tell you that the straight grip from my 1006 (should be exactly the same part number) does not look like that, at least as far as the molding goes. The rest looks about the same, but my grip 'sides' come straight down; no flare. That's about all I know about it, though.

edit: does the grip you have appear to be long enough for the frame? It looks a little short from the picture, but it could just be the angle.

I have used a heat gun in the past to get one of these Derlin grips to fit properly, and it worked fine. You can get them pretty hot to mold them the way you want them without damaging them.

I've never seen one bowed like that, but it looks fixable.

Side view. Look to be identical from this angle. The butt of the original is kind of chewed off, the only real difference I can see:

Both measure 1.840" F to R in the middle of the grip.

That grip looks warped or it was never made properly. S&W has them I ordered a straight back & curved back grip for a 4566 that I have. And both grip sides were straight. However they always are on back order. Customer service & the parts dept. have to get them from holden plant. My order took around a month to complete. Good Luck Place the order & wait maybe you will get lucky and get a set sooner rather than later.

For what it's worth I never had a problem with any grips that I ordered directly from S&W
