Default 22A takedown problem

Hi. Im' new to the forum. I just got my first Smith & Wesson. It's a 4" 22A that was given to me by a friend who is handicapped and can no longer use it. I have not fired it yet. I am having trouble field stripping it. I ejected the mag and locked the bolt back. I pushed the takedown button to remove the barrel but the button won't budge. It says in the manual that "substantial pressure may be necessary" but this thing is not moving. Any help would be appreciated.

It's been a while since I stripped mine (it's been in storage due to a cross country move) but as I remember, you need to release the bolt first then push the takedown button. Also, pay attention to the plastic tab at the end of the recoil rod/spring.
Good luck and enjoy. I love plinking away with mine.
Doug

Thanks for the reply. I had since found the PDF S&W manual and it suggested tapping the button with a plastic hammer. That did the trick. I have also read about guarding against the recoil spring and buffer being launched into oblivion. I think if the weather is decent on Sunday, I'll take the wife out to fire it. She finally decided to get her permit after a girl got robbed at gunpoint about 200 feet from my front door last month. It's always been a nice neighborhood, but these days one never knows.
