Default Lighten DAO trigger pull

I have a 5906 with a 6906 slide that has been converted to DAO. I am thinking about trying to lighten the double action trigger pull but want to be careful not to affect the reliability . Has anyone done this and if so how did you do it ?

Besides polishing the internals, you can go 1 lb lighter on the hammer spring without effecting reliability. The Performance Center used to tune DAO models, but I don't believe they currently do so.

KurtC ...I checked the Wolff website and they list the 5906 standard hammer spring weight as 20#. They have a reduced power package that has 16, 17 and 18# hammer springs. Do you think the 18# would still function reliably ? Thanks.

Notice on the Wolff webpage on the S&W Numbered Autos that there's an asteric * that tells that the 3953/3954 in DAO use the #17 spring..
This would be the one I would aquire for it if it were mine..
You could also buy the spring pack with that spring in it..
Good Luck!!

I know that I am using 1 lb lighter than OEM in all of my Smith DAO's, but I really don't remember what the actual weights are. The Wolfe web site is very helpful. If you are only using premium ammo, you can probably get the Wolfe spring pac that will let you see how low you can actually go. Just be careful if you are using it for defensive purposes.

Thanks. I'm going to order the three spring pack from Wolff and see what works.

I've used the 17# in both full size(long) and compact(short) guns from Wolff, never had any issues. But I do replace the recoil springs and hammer springs every 4-5,000rds to be on the safe side. Always replace the recoil spring when going to a lighter hammer spring as the hammer spring does have a effect on slowing the slide. I usually stay with the stock weight recoil spring but you might want to go a 1# or 2 more if you shoot plusP or hot loads a lot.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try the 17# first and see how it does.

The 17# spring worked flawlessly. Again, thanks.
